VERY cheap 190e 2.6 (belongs in the bargain thread really). Tatty in part but sounds like its had recent maintenance. With a long MOT it could be a nice cheap old car to smoke round in;

Can't grumble about the price! Two of the wheels look like copies and don't match the NSF but that's a minor detail. The 2.6 is a great thing to drive

How is the 'bonus' 560 SEC?
Another, even better one, joined it this afternoon funnily enough.

All good in the 560 'hood.

So you now have 2 x 560 SEL's, 2 x 560 SEC's and a 300 SEL?

V Nice. Of no interest to me but can I just add, the combination of a 70k 'chassis' plus 2.6, plus manuel, plus 2 X new driveshaft couplings = a very nice thing indeed! I am simply blown away by the 'solidity' of the W201 - it knocks any of my 4 W124s into a cocked hat. Although to be fair my W124s had mileage ranging from 140k to nearly 190k.

Quite possibly the air con dripping water.
The air con is ice cold, this would be good.

More worrying is that the left rear passenger compartment is damp - there are signs of gaffer tape on the sunroof, and there is a mention of the a/c pipes being unblocked to prevent water getting into the cabin in the very extensive history of the car (over £20k in spend from the invoices i've looked at - the one in the ad was an owner who took exception to his particular set of dealers and documented unnecessary work.

Any ideas?

My plans are to send the car to my trusted local guys to fix the brakes, if it isn't economic to fix the car the car will be scrapped, then run the car for a month before putting any more cash into it.

My word.

I am a barge buying amateur - I must admit I was spurred on to "just do it" today, that looks lovely.

Can you start a thread, please?

That could be a blocked air-con drain or Botangs hole (google it, seriously!) as well as blocked sunroof drains (although that usually results in water coming in via the interior mirror rather than the footwells) - there are instructions for clearing both if you search for the A8Parts forum. The car Baronyx had was indeed a D2 4.2 but had been owned by forum members on A8parts and had a very unusual and high spec, with added S8 bits.

Try switching economy mode on and if the water stops coming out then it's air-con condensate, but it may still be coming out of the wrong place and explain your wet footwell. There are a lot of drains to get blocked so investigate as many of possible as it could be a cumulative problem.

If it needs brakes, try Murrays Direct. They sell decent European made parts for buttons.

I was speaking to someone last night who bought a crashed A8 4.2 for the engine and box for £600 and is selling off what's not required to cover the cost of the engine he wanted for a project, so £700 for an MOTd car is indeed a great deal.

If you post the build sticker (minus VIN if you wish) can decode the options spec and tell you if the wheels are correct.

Boss: has your wife left you or something? Or are you just going to corner the market in big cap w126s, waiting until you possess them all and then letting them trickle back in at ten times the price paid?

"My" 190 is still in the sights and JMcC's comments do not make it any less likely.

That is the aircon drain, should be coming from just in front of the passenger compartment, it should do that. But if your toes start getting wet when going around corners, then you need to clean the aircon drain pipes, 1 hr job. well documented on line.

It does takes a long time to dry out because of the thick carpeting, took a few weeks on mine. You need to make sure it is done properly, as an ECU module sits in the footwell, and may not like immersion in water. I have had my barge for a while now, drop me a mail if you want any info. They are lovely cars, huge spec for the cost of a big night out.

Lift the mats in the front passenger footwell and you can get the carpet out as its just another mat smile

Under the wooden board (probably water damaged over the years) are the majority of relays and wiring for the car. Water around there is not great

As above insulation on underside of mats is very heavy and over an inch thick

Had the rear footwell on our a6 fill up with water from a blocked condensate drain, but no water was coming out under the car

never been a fan of the W140, but that looks as good as it can be. I'd almost say i quite like it. Ad gives the first glance impression of being a good one, but then when you look it actually says very little about the car, and contains a lot of padding.

Loving the bargain A8 tale, I so, so miss mine! Epic bargain barging, and if it goes horribly wrong then there's a good few hundred quid there in scrap alloy!

We're there is ying there must also be yang, for every car bought another must be sold and so it falls to me to report that its quite likely my 740i is to move on. A man is currently on a bus to St Pancres where he will board a train that will take him to a world of fine leather line luxury and infinitely adjustable seating.

I don't really want to sell the 7er but its time. I have 4 other cars and need for only one and with a Fabia VRs joining the fleet I now think that 200 mile trips will be taken care of by that. I can't justify £50 on fuel for a trip the Skud would do for £20 when I've got a ludicrously expensive wedding to pay for in 12 months time.

Not all bad news though, the car will go to a good friend and follower of this thread who's buying it for his dad and I'll be back in something suitable my June next year for the annual Nurburgring 24h pilgrimage

The ironic thing is, bar the recent rebuild and repaint of 1, the 4 of them are probably less than a years depreciation on a new 6 series.
