300SE's at home ... there is another couple of undeclared 560s; an SEL breaker and a SEC in the body shop.
Sweet baby Jesus. If ever there was a motivational photo shouting "work hard and earn lots of dosh" that's it!
The ironic thing is, bar the recent rebuild and repaint of 1, the 4 of them are probably less than a years depreciation on a new 6 series.
I know, indeed I've got a 126 myself. But to run a fleet of them and by them at the drop of a hat. Not to mention the epic Duchess rebuild. I hugely admire bosscerbera for being in the position to do that.

Definitely, got to pull my E class to bits in the next week or so, just got the last nuts and bolts for the front rebuild (because of squealing balljoints) and flush and refill the coolant system after I took it of the road just before Christmas.

Been getting lifts in a 1.2 fabia so cant wait the feel the smooth 3L with 24 valves working away. Can't imagine how awesome the 5.6 V8 must be.

I've also just bought a D2 Audi, though mine is an S8. Was meant to be selling it for a mate while he borrowed my car but decided it was so good I might as well buy it myself!

Frankly an amazing amount of car, hoping the lack of depreciation (can't lose more than £1500 as that's all it owes me!) will make up for the 20mpg...

A 560 must be immense. My 500 SEC is smoother than a smooth thing and certainly no slouch but from what I've read the extra 600 CC's make a massive difference; proper brutes!

If you're getting 20mpg you're not driving it hard enough lol - that's about as good as my economy ever gets on a motorway run driving like a saint.

I average 16 in mine - the DIS lies by up to 10% depending on the types of journey done on the tank. More town work = less reliable average figure. I always calculate mine based on a brimmed tank to brimmed tank basis.

Those with A8 4.2 will do better as the gearing is less insane

Yup! Mate of mine wanted shot of it, that was the deal so long as I promised to look after it! Mechanically it's lovely as the guy was a VAG mechanic.

Mpg was calculated on a longer drive today with wife and mini Scruff in the car so about as good as it will get!

All this time reading about the smoker barges, had to get one myself...

We're there is ying there must also be yang, for every car bought another must be sold and so it falls to me to report that its quite likely my 740i is to move on. A man is currently on a bus to St Pancres where he will board a train that will take him to a world of fine leather line luxury and infinitely adjustable seating.

I don't really want to sell the 7er but its time. I have 4 other cars and need for only one and with a Fabia VRs joining the fleet I now think that 200 mile trips will be taken care of by that. I can't justify £50 on fuel for a trip the Skud would do for £20 when I've got a ludicrously expensive wedding to pay for in 12 months time.

Not all bad news though, the car will go to a good friend and follower of this thread who's buying it for his dad and I'll be back in something suitable my June next year for the annual Nurburgring 24h pilgrimage

Sad times David. Love that car. Still need a 740 sport in my life, just this morning I was looking again....

My £700 A8 is now with my mechanic who thinks it will be a nice car once the front discs are done. My display now reads 17.9 mpg!

I'm away for the weekend so using the w124 again.

The w124 seems a little classic in comparison, slow and noisy, but I love driving it of some reason. 200 miles easily dispatched. It was nice to be in an interior without so many buttons - honestly how many do you really need?

The best news is that the a8 has an electric rear sunblind like the w124 - I can continue to dismiss drivers behind at the touch of a button. Tiptronic is good once I found it. It goes around corners well, and builds speed very effectively with a nice (but very quiet) noise.

Thank you everyone for the advice - I will be attending to the car once I'm back and my mechanic has given it a good going over.

Seeing that pic has made me want a W126 (in fact this whole thead has dangerously made me want an old Mercedes Benz) before you (bosscerbera) buy every example left!

That pale blue SEC looks massively wide... it's actually half an inch narrower than a Mk II Focus though.

Found one! F reg 500 SEL, wrong interior (Anything wrong with a cloth interiored W126?), low miles (apparently) & £465 under thread budget.

Any good?

Nothing wrong with a cloth interior but what the hell are those wheels? (Look like late W124 items but I'm willing to stand corrected).
