Excellent, that's all really helpful, thank you!

I had my eye on a 2011 1.8 but will investigate the electric parking brake further and start looking at some of the older ones including diesels.

Sounds like yours have treated you very well which is great to hear!
Yeah I got my love for old Toyotas in Uganda on a trip to see a friend who was working in a hospital out there. 90% of the cars were Toyota, and the absolute insane abuse they were taking on a daily basis defied belief.

BBC sounds was going on about a solid state battery for a BEV. This has apparently been developed by Toyota, and has a 1200km range, with a very short charge time (They claimed 10 minutes I think).
If this is the case, this really is the end (or the begining of the end) of internal combustion.

Credible? Toyota developing and BBC reporting. Good sources I would say.

Yes it is and yes ive had the oil cooler seal.its a shame as Its a nice car and runs lovely but the leak(s) is/are tainting the experience a bit frown as you say, shed fashion and all that so will just plod along till september and see what happens on mot smile

beer

I do love this shedding marlarky! Makes sense to crack on unabated until your hand is forced (kind of my idea with my Vectra at moment) I keep looking at these 1.8 Siggy's though and would like an Elite spec in all honesty....only for the heated seats, I do miss this from my SAAB 9-3 days.

Tbh, even an Astra J petrol Elite would suffice, these too have heated leather smile

But, then again I may just roll the dice like I did on this Vectra 2 years ago, and see what is about when the time comes - with no prior wanting of anything in particular, other than (5 doors and petrol and under £2k)

My A6 Avant is in for an MOT next week so fingers crossed it doesn’t need much. Just ticked over 161k miles and it doesn’t feel like it needs anything – it had rear discs and pads last year. Only previous advisory was for slight cracking appearing on one of the rear tyres but it still looks ok to me and the tread depths are decent all-round so I’m hopeful of a drama free pass.

Does anyone have any experience of peugeot 307s of around 2007-2012 vintage?

They seem mega cheap and I'm after a cheap estate. Some of them are low mileage and specced up nicely too.

1.6 diesel or petrol seems to be the only option

I highly rate the French diesels, cheap to run and are ok reliability if looked after, like most other diesels in all honesty - the 1.6 VVT is the one that likes a drink of oil, or has the potential too I think, but cheap to fix I think.

Tbh, this is shedding - if it was cheap enough I would have one as a tool car, but would stretch to the slightly newer 308SW as these little wagons can be had for as little as <£2000.

Few here to think about....

Just in ATS getting the nail in tyre issue sorted - turns out there was another one in there, so whilst it could be repaired I've told them to replace both fronts, as they are getting close to 3mm and are generally rubbish tyres.

So first proper bill on the Civic, 170 for a pair of Avon's. Hopefully I'll be able to unleash the full 140 horsepower on a wet road now...

Yep, about £80 a corner. More than I wanted to spend but I don't fit Chinese tyres on account of their awfulness and ATS don't do part worns....

Hopefully your batch of Avon tyres will be better than the ones I had. Started to perish within a year, really poor.

Interesting intel, because Toyota have been giving mixed signals on BEVs. Feeling has been they were hanging back to see which way the technology race went. However, I understand their hydrogen car is being discontinued, so maybe they have decided to go with the tide and full on EV. I would certainly be more willing to buy a Toyota EV than most competitors given their history of quality engineering....

I'd own a Prius. Not because hybrid or planet saving b*****ks but because Toyota and I've been in a couple of taxis and the size and hatch suited my needs then. I've driven a Civic IMA hybrid saloon.

The 120K Front Line MGB GT article sent me down a rabbit hole of looking for ZS180, MGF and MG TF. An MG advert had me checking a dealers other stock and had me looking at an advert for an RX300 because Toyota.

S60 flew through it's second MOT with me today with just an advisory for front brake hoses!

First year was rough with a lot of spend on catching up with a lot of deferred maintenance as well as ensuring peace of mind from having gotten it with no service history but in the 9.5k miles since the last MOT all it's needed in the interim was a headlight bulb (£5ish?), a rear tyre (£50) and a replacement steering adjustment lever (£20).

However, to do the opposite of low-cost motoring, I've also treated it to shocks and accessories all around (which made less of an improvement than I hoped- the ride is sadly just *that* bad), the cruise control was working intermittently which was resolved with a clutch pedal position switch (£70), a nicer interior with heated memory seats (£50) and the rare cupholders in the rear seats as well as changing the oil and filter every 5k miles and doing the gearbox fluid and coolant.

Unfortunately, it's going to be surplus to requirements soon as I'm finally in a position to get a genuinely nice daily again - but at this rate it seems rude to move it on and I would be well served to keep running it for business mileage (which, based on my calculations, has me getting paid to drive the car!), get to the next service interval at 116k and then park it up, take insurance off and SORN it until it gets pressed back into action in the winter.

Some things really do hold it back, but at least in terms of sheds (which isn't saying much to be fair), it's been the best all-rounder I've ever had and the fact I've kept it longer than any other shed over the years (not counting my first car, which was not meant to be a shed but turned out that way 😅) with no real desire to get rid of it speaks volumes.

Some shots of it hanging around with others:

Experience Yes, they are cheap because they don't have reliable engines.

If you can find one with 90 bhp 1.6 dv6, with the injectors at the front of the engine, they will be fine, but otherwise all engines options except the 2.0 diesel are terrible.

Please remind me, the ones to go for are the ones with injectors at the back or at the front?

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH, I have given false and misleading information, I am so sorry.
Injectors at the front = trouble. Injectors at the BACK = no problem.

I am so sorry for the error. I hope you haven't gone and bought the wrong type?

Also, they get run to intergalactic mileages by uncaring cabbies. I keep trying to get my Dad to get one.
