Stupid things non petrolheads say....

"My 1.9 TDI Astra convertible is the best car I've ever owned. It's easily faster than my old [shed] 530i, and I've beaten two Porches and an M3 off the lights this last week, and they were both definitely trying as well. They looked proper pissed off when I won. My car has a sport button near the gearbox, see. I just press it and the whole car comes alive."

Time to fess up. I was one of his victims. It was going well until I collapsed in laughter that someone would buy a diesel convertible, which prevented me being able to change into 2nd gear.I st you not.
After reading the "regretting buying a Subaru" thread I was reminded of when I lived in Peterborough (I worked there, I'm not proud of it). I was in a house share with a few other lads and owned an Alfa 146, which sounded pretty good and (compared to the cars I'd previously owned) was pretty quick.
One of the lads I shared with asked me about the engine and why it sounded the way it did, so I told him it was because it was a 'boxer' engine.
A few days later I heard him enthusing to one of the other guys about how my car sounded the way it did "because it's got the engine from a Boxster in it"

The EV lovers are typical non-petrolheads in that they just dont get what we love about petrol cars.
They always sound like the husband who says "You already have 2 handbags. Why would you want anymore? " or the non-food lover who says "Why would you pay all that money for a Michelin star meal when fish and chips will also fill you up?". Essentially the same small-minded people who say that fast cars are pointless, but they now have the fact that the Tesla is fast (in a straight line) as some kind of trump card to respond to people who ACTUALLY love cars, rather than just wanting pub bore numbers for 0-60 in a 2 ton barge.

I personally think it's small-minded to call EV-lovers 'small minded'.
Actually I agree with the above - writing off *all* ICE cars because EVs are becoming more practical is stupid. They (or hydrogen-powered cars) will become the default power source in the next 20 years, but there's still place for ICE in a fun car.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
