Well as the sun has been out today, I've tackled the headlights - not a bad job, I'd give the final result 8/10. I did sadly clip the paint in a couple of small areas, but I'm sure a bit of polish will drastically improve things. I'm satisfied, anyway!

Looks good, I think you're being a bit harsh on yourself, I'd give that a 9/10. Funnily enough I polished the headlights on my shed this afternoon, I just used some Autosol metal polish on a rag, worked it in pretty hard and buffed off with a microfibre cloth. Then worked in some wax (I need to get some UV protector stuff really)

I already had all the ingredients so it didn't cost me anything!

Contrast between a hazy one and a polished one

The other one done

Much better than before and it keeps with my ethos of running this on a shoestring budget where necessary.

Not sure about the Joy of Running and Old Shed but there isn't much joy in selling one! Selling my 2004 V70 Estate - very much like the one above, highish miles but full history and lovely. Facebook Marketplace - which might be my first mistake. Ghosted twice - it isn't like I haven't something better to do than wait around whilst someone doesn't turn up or have the decency to apologise.....then there are the familiar "would you take £200 for it" mob.... I'm fond of the car and it deserves better. And breathe!!

In case there is any V70 love. Replacing with a P3 S80. Note entirely sure why....

I'm really enjoying tackling things myself more, I must say! Impressed with the results you've achieved there, I'd never think of using metal polish. I've used some fancy ceramic infused wax on mine, hopefully that'll help to some extent until they turn again - at which point I'll get the other kit with UV protectant included.

That looks wonderful, I don't need two, but I find myself wanting two laugh. I'd be popping the odd detail on here....

I would suggest, for "nice interesting stuff" like this one, the brand forum: must be a volvo and/or estate lover forum. Just put yours there, with a good price. Less hassle I am sure, more genuine buyers. It is also how someone sold a high mileage Omega V6 petrol not so much time ago.

It is a good point and I may go down the Owners Forum route. I'm in the middle of seeing if the chap I bought it from (distant friend) wants to buy it back. He's never got over selling it apparently!! 177500 miles and still yearned for!!!

What engine/gearbox is this one?

2.4 N/a and 5 speed auto, not Geartronic. All works as it should.

They are great cars aren't they? I came from a series of LS400s and although the refinement isn't on the same scale, they are just so damned practical! Remind me why I'm buying a S80!!!!

Didn't know you can use autosol metal polish for headlights. Will give that a go myself.

Any recommended lacquer for after?

Better stereo?

Because you don't need estate car practicality but can fold the rear seats down if needed?

I can't see the ad as I don't do Facebook anymore but to add a bit of balance, as a serial Volvoist that's the sort of thing I generally go "does it start, stop and drive reasonably well? Yes? Good, train booked..." then go and get. As in, go and get... not then arrive and dick around pointing out stone chips or ask 45 million questions like "Gave you got an oil sample from the gearbox" or point out it was advised for pads on an MOT in 2009 etc etc.

Frankly, if it's shed priced and not breathing it's last breath, it's worth the asking price and certainly doesn't require any Mike Brewer based haggling or the absolutely cringey "I have one price in mind and that's all I'll pay" Billy Big Balls sort of bullst. I'd suggest the owners forums too but to be honest, they're sometimes worse... looking for champagne for lemonade money and more intent on telling you how Wayne's brother bought a Polestar with a misfire for less and such tripe.

Hang on in there, it'll go... sadly you've just got to filter out the knobs who have "Cash 2nyte" mate or think they're buying a brand new Aventador and hope that a decent buyer comes along and off it goes, hassle free. Or you'll get fed up, part ex then get ripped for letting it go so cheap to the chorus if "Oh, I'd have had that off you mate" from the forum types. Aye, sure you would.

Best of luck, but selling cars is grim 99% of the time

One of the better combinations there - mine is a 2.0T, also not Geartronic. A shame my stereo doesn't work, though.

Mines also a 2.4 170 auto SE,
look lovely as the 04 cars with coloured bumper inserts and cills, mine black sapphire met so I’m going to replace & paint them as it’s a dead easy job, better than trying to clean them up at 19 years old and bleached & scraped to death

I don't have any recommendations for a UV lacquer protectant (I was hoping others would chime in with recommendations), but I'll be using Meguiars Headlight Protectant on mine as I already have some, I just need to pick it up from my parents house, and have used it in the past. It acts a bit like a polish so it does need applying fairly regularly (once every 3 months) but is a quick task of applying it with a cloth, and buffing off with a clean microfibre cloth. Its worked well for me in the past.

Until I grab the Meguiars (or buy some other UV protectant), I've just applied some carnauba wax on them as a temp thing.

I always like an old Volvo. My preference is Diesel and manual.

PM me if you want a sale at the bottom end of reasonable prices.

bearman68, do you have a view on the 16V 1.4 HDi? Are they as much bother as the DV6 1.6?

The 16V 1.4 HDi is more bother than the 8V 1.4 HDi?
