Is there more to this why he was jailed for 16 months? Is there previous?
It looks like he's done the decent thing and given his dashcam footage and admitted guilt. Why so harsh?
Maybe the dashcam footage of the previous Scooby driving resulted in the level of penalty. It looks like he's done the decent thing and given his dashcam footage and admitted guilt. Why so harsh?

There's an underpass in Basingstoke that frequently catches large vans...
Is there? Whereabouts?https://maps.app.goo.gl/L65DswvkYjUYHrdM7
Looks like the street view car didn't go under! The ceiling has a lot of scratches if you go through.

16 months for giving someone life changing injuries isn’t harsh. That others have been given extremely lenient sentences doesn’t make this harsh just not unduly lenient like some sentences. The driver was extremely lucky the biker survived.
A quick google suggests over 90% of death by dangerous driving convictions result in prison time with an average sentence of just over 5 years.
I know the outcome was very serious, but it was a mistake rather than outrageous driving. A quick google suggests over 90% of death by dangerous driving convictions result in prison time with an average sentence of just over 5 years.
Have the same accident in cars and the end result wouldn't have been as severe for what was the same error. It wouldn't be punished by 16 months in jail either.

That would almost certainly have been fatal for both drivers had it been two cars so no need for a sentence. A head on at 120mph+ in cars is going to sting a bit. Either way it doesn’t matter, it wasn’t a car coming the other way so the hypothetical case is irrelevant.Have the same accident in cars and the end result wouldn't have been as severe for what was the same error. You think the driver was mistakenly travelling in excess of the speed limit? I’d say that’s highly unlikely. He was more likely pushing his luck and it ran out.

Two cars head on at 60 is not 120, it’s 60. You think the driver was mistakenly travelling in excess of the speed limit? I’d say that’s highly unlikely. He was more likely pushing his luck and it ran out.

He was going 70mph in what I assume is a 60mph limit. Yes it's over the speed limit, but it's not outrageous or indeed unusual.
The video doesn't show him pushing his luck. I see him travelling at a reasonable speed and for some reason being badly caught out by that corner.
I still can't see why that corner upset the Subaru like it did. The car following behind had no issues at a similar speed.

That doesn’t change the fact that the closing speed is 120mph. That the force is not the same as a car (relatively soft and compressible) hitting a solid wall at 120mph I would have thought would be fairly obvious. Either way I wouldn’t want to come to dead stop from 60mph in a fraction of a second because like I said it’s going to sting.Driver101 said:
There wasn't anywhere near 120mph closing speed between the car and bike. The Subaru had reduced speed and the biker had braked very hard and was on his way over the handlebars.

He couldn’t get his car round that corner at that speed for whatever reason so his actions weren’t those reasonably expected of a competent driver hence why he was convicted of dangerous driving. I’ve no idea why he struggled to get round there either but that’s not really of concern because he didn’t and he’s rightly being punished for it.He was going 70mph in what I assume is a 60mph limit. Why are you still arguing in the face if irrefutable evidence?
I’m not. I said nothing about the force involved beyond two cars hitting each other being worse for the car than a bike hitting the same car, which is true. I said the closing speed of two vehicles travelling towards each other at 60mph is 120mph, which is true. I think you’re failing to comprehend the difference between closing speed/relative speed and force or have misunderstood what I’ve written which may well be my fault.djc206 said:

I know what you were trying to say as much as you do...
I’m not failing to comprehend anything.
