Spa 6 Hours 2014: the racing cars
Discussion
Epic edition of the 6 Hrs race: starting off in the typical Spa Indian Summer stylee but last 2 hours the weather changed into biblical rains which made the organisation decide to stop the race at 21:45 hrs. GT40 1-2-3-fest: Streton, Voyazides/Hadfield and Wills/Littlejohn. Ta, Chris Harris finished the Frankel bros Falcon. Maybe check his Tweets.
Let's dump my 400-something snaps. I cut them up in 2 albums: racing cars and classical car park.

Enjoy!
P26 6 Hrs 250 SWB: well done.
50 years Ford Mustang: we like the the most iconic ones made in the 60s. Fastback at display here.
Deep concentration before the 50s GP cars fire up.
Drivers are heroes: open wheelers from the golden era of motorsports.
Well doen Bart Deenik?: P71, 2nd Falcon in and the quickest around Spa in a cracking 3:03.
Best 3:08 made the 250 shy of the Falcon.
More.

The orange Marcos was the Tice / Conoly Marcos:
It did well, as always: P9 / 3:06, so back to FIA app K I guess.
Rescued a Chris Harris snap. P75 and well done.
Deenik / Douglas quick and famous 101 came in P71. And the fastest Falcon lap at 3:03.
Electrical problems made them retire after 4.5 hours / 68 laps. Winner Streton did 89 laps in 5:27 Hrs, when the race was terminated.
Mike Bell wasn't happy with his Gilbern 1800 GT laptimes. And yes, 3:20s aren't particulary spectaculair. But P54 in this race? Very well done!
It took Mike quite a few years to get the GT up to 6 Hours spec: "It had to be absolutely right to race the 6 Hours."
I had about 15 mins to grab some cars from La Source: certainly not my best shots ever, but then I will post only the reasonable snaps. Here's Healey ace David Grace after 45 mins of racing, just before the heavens openend. Fantastic P17 and best Big Healey.

I love the typical Golden Hour after 16:30 and on my way to La Source I wondered if the 35 mm Macro could offer a different view on my usual hairpin antics. With one eye on the black clouds I figured things were going to be different anyways.
And they did. After 15 mins of wall time I had to run for the rains. When I was busy in the F1 pitbox nasty stuff happened on the straight between Bus Stop and La Source:
A Cobra, an Elan and an MGB were involved. This is probably one of the last shots with the unfortunate silver Beverley / Humphries Cobra intact.
Imagine an MGB ramming this Tomlin / Adcock Lotus Elan. The B driver was hit by surprise as he did not see a thing, such was the rain.
This is what it looks like:
Shocking sight. The Elan driver remained with a damaged hand.
Bloody surprise with the driver relatively unharmed and the Elan so ... totalled?
Always a bit shocked when seeing a nice and probably expensive car shot to pieces.
More than just a scratch.
Unhappy Barry Sidery-Smith MGB, with Barry not in it.
Only 9 laps ... very sad.
Next: DHG Cobra trouble.

Hi Dinks
Pretty sure the race was only stopped at just gone 9:45 pm as I worked out there were only 3-4 laps left and was working out the gaps when they threw the red. The race started late by 15 minutes which is why it looks like it would have been 30 minutes early. I got proper soaked and I only did the last hour on the wall.

Editted for accuracy
David Hart bringing the DHG Cobra in: during the warming up lap the trouble started and the Cob caught fire. Every corner was a trouble. The diff cooler went pop and oil was leaking on the hot brakes.
This called for a long reparation but it did not work out well and the car had to retire.
No need to risk another outing: this is not a fun race, we are here to win", teammanager Freddy Rijshouwer stated.
The Goodwood revival provided for a good weekend. DHG will be there next year.
Jacking up the beast to find the malfunction.
Next: Bizza and E-type yum.

Gentlemen Drivers race winners Roger Wills and James Littlejohn Bizzarrini 5300 GT resting:
What a beauty.
Light went and rains came. Low shuttertimes to try and grab the cars worked only so so. The always successfull Clark / McCaig Jaguar had to retire after 38 laps: what happened guys?
Hard to see it's raining - but that's my hand there to prevent my Olympus from the showers.
P23 for the De Beaumont / Newall / Kaufmann Semi-lightweight E-type. Gibbons set the pace with 3 mins laps (!) but soon these dropped to canoe speed. P15 and well done, but no pictures.
The loudest pop and banger of the grid in heavy traffic.
Best result 911: P11 which is amazing. I wonder how many tires ...

[quote=terenceb]Hi Albert, its been a while. Shame about Barry's car,
nine laps being slightly better than six!
What a shame also that the organisers have failed to take control of lighting systems as well.re Elan picture.Bigger shame that the six hour has become sugch a free for all for non compliant cars!!!
Once the Spa 6Hr was THE historic event of the year, now though it has been credited with allowing more cheat cars than Goodwood.

What do you consider the issue with the Elan lights?
the rules for lighting in the 6 hours race are
2.6 LIGHT
Light must be Period Specification, by definition excluding modern Xenon or similar lights. Auxiliary lights may be added up to a maximum of six total forward facing lights excluding parking lights.
So, as long as the Elan doesn't have Xenon/HID light units there looks nothing wrong with it that I can see.

P83 911 in typical Porsche stylee: sharp right and shaving the wall.
Frontwheels have not much to say at LS.
P90 904/6 driven by Roman Caresani and Alexander van der Lof. After 2 hours the 6 pot became a four pot, not good.
Pit scenery:
Ex-Jo Siffert 1962 Lotus 22 Formula Junior.
Show and no go. Lovely piece.
Tiny 1.1 Cosworth screamer in.
Next: more open wheelers.
