Ok guys so who wants to take a punt on what this will sell for?Advert said:
Owned at new by a Mr J Page in London, Jimmy Page ?. Absolutely no guarantee this is Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin. No certificates etc to prove this, just a record kept of the first owner. It could be but not sold as such. The Service book shows it listed as a Mr JP Page at first registration.
I think it might be - his middle name is Patrick! Car is in Elgin? That is up my way... Depending on how much it rises I might take a punt on this!
Gentlemen, some advice please from fellow barge owners.
My E38 has regrettably developed a small fuel leak somewhere on the tank. An attempted repair has failed and it is slowly, so very slowy, oozing fuel onto the underside of the tank. The car was bought for 850 and a replacement tank is probably a grand's worth of job or more with the labour. Gutted - I've gotten about 8k entirely trouble free miles out of her in my 5 odd months of ownership but I'm now looking at my options. Where does one 'weigh it in for £350' as it were? I just rang one breaker who offered me 140 for it, er no.
All advice gratefully received!

My Mondeo had a similar thing when I got it - turned out all it needed was a replacement fuel filter. Have you checked that?
Otherwise, I wouldn't bother scrapping it. Break it for parts instead - I would imagine the interior and engine would be worth something, and probably some panels and lights too. Then scrap what you can't sell, and I wouldn't be surprised if you made a fair bit of cash

A Grand's worth! How much of this is labour - whats involved - and how much for the repair / replacement tank?My E38 has regrettably developed a small fuel leak somewhere on the tank. New tanks are in the region of 800 I believe although I also believe refurbs are around 3-400. Also to remove the tank you need to drop/remove the exhausts and driveshafts so quite a lot of labour involved too.
How hard can it be to repair a tank. 3-400 sounds a bit steep to me, is it just steel?hornetrider said:
Don't shoot the messenger mate, I'm working on the collective wisdom of others (searching BM fora)
Apologies, I'm just grumbling at the numbers - not you sir. My limited knowledge on the subject leads me to believe that its just a metal tank which has started to corrode and is now leaking. Is there nothing petrol proof you can cover it with? Lets imagine there was some fibre glass type stuff which when hardened was petrol proof. Cant you just plaster the old one with the stuff and let it harden, then replace?Seems a damn shame to scrap a car just because the petrol tank has sprung a leak. Would you keep the car if this was a 2-300 quid repair?
well you can fix the tank for £60
if you can get it out
here's what you need:
