The Humer Unbeam Interesting Filling Stations Thread
Discussion
Post pictures of interesting filling stations and garages you come across: small, picturesque, disused, derelict or recycled - anything eye catching. Then and Now pics would be good too.
This one is in Llandrindod Wells. I had to stop the car and walk back.
When I searched on "Pritchard & Sons Llandrindod Wells" they are now Funeral Directors. That's a Change of Business Planning Application I would have liked to have seen.
79.9p per litre? So, not a million years ago it was still functioning like this.

This place was pretty cool, on the way to Dunkeswell Aerodrome, Devon. It even had the rubber strip that made a bell ring when you drove onto the forecourt & the attendants would come out & fill the car up for you. At least they still did about 10 years ago:
We stopped at a filling station in Cornwall just like this one coming back from a holiday some years ago. A sign warned that it was "The Last Petrol Before" something or other. The owner was a man of few words and we stood in silence as he filled the car. Eventually he nodded towards black clouds to the east and said, "It be rainin' in England."Wenvoe, north of Barry in South Glamorgan. In the Google Street View from last year the Megane is in the same position but without the rocks.
As I took the picture, at about 6:45 one morning last week, a bloke sidled up to me and asked if I was buying the garage. I got as far as, "Er, no, I'm taking a picture for a thread on a motoring website..." and I could tell he was losing interest.

Colyford in Devon this afternoon.
It was closed so I'm unable to report if it still functions. It did fairly recently as I have filled up there in living memory. There is a small museum out the back so it may just be a big advert now.
The filling station stopped supplying petrol back in 2001, as covered here. I actually remember the pumps being refurbished during the 80s. The museum is also shut and the contents are shortly to be auctioned off.It was closed so I'm unable to report if it still functions. On the Bath Road between Reading and Newbury is the site of the UK's first filling station. It was built by AA in 1919 for their members and was operated by a patrolman.
As it was.
As it is now. I waited for ages for an AA van. Gave up in the end.
The owner of the forge in nearby Aldermaston saw the benefits of selling fuel and the location of his pump - which had to be behind a wall - is marked by the square hole still there in the wall of the forge's yard in The Street, Aldermaston.
I don't believe there was a great deal of choice.
