As soon as I saw the title of this thread I thought this one might appear. I might be biased but for all it's so-called dynamic shortcomings this one's a keeper. Kept me safe for 11 years! velocemitch said:
No I don't have one actually, I ran a cooking JTDm for three and half years, went back yesterday actually. It's just that Alfa often gets a kicking in the press and it's frequently undeserved. I expect you would love the QV tct, but yes at 30k you would have to be very keen. Think there are some good deals about though, the dealers are realistic...
I rated my Giulietta as the best set up car I've had for the bumpy B roads stuff, which like you is my natural habitat.
Out of curiosity, what did you replace it with?I rated my Giulietta as the best set up car I've had for the bumpy B roads stuff, which like you is my natural habitat.
Even when I can afford to go shopping, it'd be for an older machine with a manual rather than a newer TCT one. Or one of its rivals...
I enjoy my Octavia vRS but the steering doesn't communicate that much and turn in isn't that responsive. Something a little lighter maybe... The Alfa might just suit.

Ohh. I went the opposite way I needed something big enough to Tow a Caravan, yet small enough to suit the Wife as I intend to pass it on to her in a couple of years. We ended up with a Skoda Yeti, Monte Carlo.Even when I can afford to go shopping, it'd be for an older machine with a manual rather than a newer TCT one. Or one of its rivals...

The Octavia VRs seriously tempted me though.
I'm hoping Alfa will finally come through with the promised RWD Giulia in a couple of years. Or I might be going to the Jag shop for an XE.
Surprised Starion's, 944's and Ferrari 400's are being mentioned. I got the impression they're more universally liked.
The following tend to receive low opinions, but i very much like them:
Porsche 996. All the other editions seem to have more fans while this generation is considered the ugly-duckling. I'd have one above 997, 993 et al.
Mitsuoka Orochi. A very creative and unique design. Cannot possibly be mistaken for anything else.
(Nicked image from above post - thanks!)
Ford Probe. I get the impression the Probe is universally hated, but i'd love to have one and it still looks great.
B Engineering Edonis. No, i don't know why either. I just do!

I have great memories (other than the nasty interior) of a rented one of these in the mid-late 90s on a trip to Snowdonia:
A snappy, short-throw gearbox
A sweet, revvy engine.
Sharp steering with a twitchy back-end and lots of controllable lift-off oversteer.
It was probably quite similar to the Hyundai Coupé
It was driven HARD.
There may be some nostalgia, but it was better than most of the other cars of the era that I'd driven, until the Focus.

I've never thought that the Calibra looked good.
I always liked the Calibra to be fair I and thought it looked good but I was always a ford fan so the thought of owning a Vauxhall never entered the equation for me...but there has been a few Vauxhalls over the years that I did fancy owning and the Calibra is one of them. I should probably confesss here that I loved my 405 Mi16. I nearly bought a second one in Australia when I was there for a while, and I've been looking for one (on and off) for the last couple of years as a bit of a project/weekend thing. I'm clearly not in a majority on that, because most of them seem to have been cut up to feed an obsession with fitting the wrong engine into a 205.
