As soon as the ignition is turned off the handbrake is applied automatically. The handbrake button lights up and the sign appears on the dash.

If you have the same golf with an EPB and your car doesn’t do this I’d be interested to know why mine’s different.

As discussed in the forum the EPB is automatically applied when the engine is switched off so I can’t see how this can be attributed to human error by accidentally forgetting to apply it.

It isn't though is it? You need to "switch it on" with the foot brake. 99.99% of the time you do this anyway.

As also said, you should leave your car in gear as a back up.
Well no
isn't the idea to do both in case you forget to do one
Both methods should work independently

Look I think we know by now that too many people are confused as to whether theyve actually applied the parking brake
or merely enabled the system so they can apply it

It's not just if you forget. They do work together. (especially if you've a TVR hehe)

Have a look at the video I posted about a quarter the way into the thread
Does it work ( or not work) like that?

Has anyone had any luck with VW over the EPB ’failure’?

I’ve recently experienced this problem. I have a very gently sloping drive and after being parked for nearly two hours my 2017 Golf SE Nav rolled off it and in to a car parked in the road.

As discussed in the forum the EPB is automatically applied when the engine is switched off so I can’t see how this can be attributed to human error by accidentally forgetting to apply it.

The car is with VW for examination but as expected, so far they can’t find a fault!
Hello,

I have been trying to solve this problem for three years, but for now they have not been able to give an explanation to this problem. The neutral gear sensor has been changed to my car and the problem seems to resolve, but it is not completely resolved, After the change it happened once again
