Sideways. Against the lockstops on the road around a roundabout.

Bonus points if you can doughnut around someone.

That's why I don't like cars with too much grip. Enough power to push the chassis pwrgerably in a lowish grip car. Ideally something older without much (anything) in the way of electronic crap.
Are you really serious about this PH driving god froth?

You don't need to be on the limit to enjoy corners ...

Surely you can feel the difference in handling/feedback of an MX5 compared to a (for example) BMW M5 at legal speeds?
You may not - I do.

Yes mine has some an M5 in comparison, at the same speeds - does not.
Take no notice Ikemi, he's lying......

You need to be at the limit to enjoy corners? Really?

You sound a dangerous person to be on the road near...?

20+ years without incident say otherwise

Well done, you are a driving god....but I still say if you feel you need to be right at the limit to enjoy a corner, it's dangerous and playing on Lady Luck.

There is no way you can be 'on the limit' when driving some of the incredible alpine roads in and around Switzerland. Not unless you have a genuine death wish. As above, what if there was a broken down lorry, a horse rider or a group of cyclists on the exit of the corner?

If you really have to be flat out around every corner to fully enjoy your car, then you should limit your spirited driving to track days.

No point creating another thread. As I was thinking about power and it’s probably been discussed many a time...

I’ve had more cars than I can count...
Citroen Saxo
Ford Cortina Mk2
Renault Clio Williams
Lotus Carlton - stolen
RS Cosworth - stolen twice in the same night
VW VR6
Skyline R32
BMW 435d/335d (F32/F30)
BMW M5 (F10)
BMW 320d (E92)
BMW 325i (E46)
Audi RS5

I could go on... some have been heavily modified. The 435d probably the most at 380 bhp with ACS suspension, race chip xlr etc... the M5 of course was more than that power wise only though...

Anyhow. I thought 300 hp was the sweet spot and how I’d never downgrade. However... having purchased an MX5 recently upon forum recommendations... and outside of that a 320d (G30)... I would say near 200 hp is enough for me.

It depends on car weight.. intended purpose... needs...
On the 320d. I very rarely use anywhere near the 190hp... but do make use of the torque.

Living in rural Devon... the MX5 is amazing for throwing into bushes as cars have got wider and often there are idiot tourists in huge SUVs.

The 320d is an instrument to get further a field whilst making it 60mpg... it’s not furiously fast but it’s not exactly gutless. It’s sufficient. This long winded response brings me to my point that it’s enough... I found with the M5 that I couldn’t put down all the power... it took all of my concentration keeping it under control... and it was frustrating not being able to enjoy it other than santa pod... for straight lines it was great but for windy country lanes and hills the 320d feels more relaxing with it’s low down torque. I guess in my old age I have become a bit rev averse. Middle age... two dogs... hefty divorce settlement from a scum bag husband but happy with my peppy fun MX5 and frugal 320d. Don’t see the point of more power... more insurance and more maintenance. I only learned how to change a wheel a few months ago. You can laugh at me if you want!
