Thanks Riggers, good article. But what about the comparative torque figures? It's the twisty power that makes fast diesels so surftastic in overtaking moves and a big electric motor help quite a bit in this regard. My old 205 non-turbo D could take off uphill with no throttle at all.

Since when did 0-60 in 5.5 secs become a bit run of the mill???
In the context of a large four-door saloon, it's not - but in the context of the 'world's fastest-accelerating something' it doesn't seem quite so extraordinary...
I see what you mean.

I disagree, but I see what you mean smile

This is a real-world compromise market (2 extra doors, hybrid, luxury interior) so I think "real world" fast is very impressive for what it is, rather than "the only thing it can do is go fast", fast, IYSWIM.

Based on my experience with hybrid sounds like Infiniti are a long way behind Lexus with the system integration side of the technology

It will only ever be a novelty car in Europe - simply not designed with us in mind

As far as i can see the only upside to this car is is doesn't sound like a diesel and even thats a dying stereotype (heard the Land rover TDV8?)

I could really live with a powertrain like that. Definitely in my motoring future I think. 20mpg in my XKR would get very hefty if I started commuting or doing more mileage. There is absolutely no point in having 4.2litres of Supercharged lovelyness just eating petrol when I'm doing 30mph in boring traffic or through a town centre.

The ability to waft about quietly and efficiently, but do the right thing and sound right when I planted the right foot and pressed on would be perfect.

Hope they do a good looking 2+2 or 2 seater (or Porsche or Jaguar have an option in their next gen).

Make it so you can plug-in charge and it would be damn near perfect

How would the ability to charge the battery from the mains meaning you use less fuel spoil it?

I guess you'd feel you need to plug it in, which makes it less convenient. However, if I'm not using my current car for over a week it goes on a battery conditioner in the garage

So, if it's an additional, optional way of using the car where plugging it in improves non-petrol range but doesn't have to be done to make the car usable, then I guess you are right.
