RE: Time For Tea? Reverse-Gear Racing
Discussion
I've got a Daf 44!!!! Never had the opportunity to say that on PH before!!
Me and a mate own it and keep it in a lockup near my house. Of course, both of us have done several timed reverse laps around the garages (private land!) to test out the theory, and yes, of course, it will go as fast in reverse as forwards. Brilliant fun!
Unfortunately its laid up right now while we wait for a bolt to arrive from Holland to stop an oil leak (that's the only problem - no parts!), but it is an ace motor. Drove it from Edinburgh to Leeds last summer with no faults, and can just about overtake lorries on the motorway!
Have seen that backwards racing before, it looks brilliant. Reminds me of going to the stock cars and banger racing with my dad.

One of the best cars my Dad own when I was a kid was a Daf. Little engine, big hart. There also faster down hill than anything with out that CVT gearbox. Good rally history as well.
Sadly very few in the UK. Dad sold ours and bought a Simca! I still remember Mum banging her head on a bump going to my nan's. Seeing the World Rally start at Crystal Place, in which Daf did well. I wish we still had that little red DAF.
There's is a very funny story as to how It became my dad's. My Nan tied learning to drive. She tried a manual and almost crashed it three time on her first driving lesson. Decided to get an auto as easy to drive. Bought the DAF as it was small and cheap. You will not believe what follows. At her first lesson the instructor drove them out to a nice quiet road and nan took over. The lesson starts and they are going along nicly, when I instructor asked her to take the next right. They went staight past the turning. The instructor stopped the car and asked why she did not turn. She answered "Its an automatic, it does everything for you!" After that she give up on driving and the DAF past to my dad.

Actually pretty much every car is more aerodynamic backwards due to air intakes, so the Allegro is still rubbish at everything.
You sure about that?cheesyblob said:

You sure about that?Do any of you watch mythbuster?
Well they took a 924 and turned round the body! The engine and every thing else remain the correct way round. It was slower, mythbusted!
