Speeling chuckers not withstanding, my boss is dyslexic, but is an internationally renowned chemist. However whenever we go to see clients I insist I see the presentation first - his dyslexia even spills over into speech. Point is, bad spelling isn't necessarily a result of unintelligence, although the failure to use checking is just that or laziness (which he would freely admit to)
Alot of the GCSE grade is based on coursework done over the final two years. 
One of the shift managers at work who is a complete arse uses the spellchecker on word to help him when he is writing up forms/ reports. It usually works out ok for him but I came to work one day and one of the guys showed me a shift report that he'd written up,
"...they were rubbing agents...."
I asked what's a rubbing agent? He had tried to spell against but ended up with the word agent. Did we change it before the report got sent to all the senior managers? Did we hell!
I work in a different department now so I no longer have the satisfaction of ensuring that the spellchecker is turned off on the two PCs that he uses.
Did I mention that he was an arse?

See, was that so hard? I also find it amusing how a question asks if he'd take £250 cash to end the auction, whereas the winning bid was £256 - if the buyer pays on PayPal then the seller takes home less money than the early £250 cash!(Also, if Calibras are going for such a low price, I think I've found myself a winter hack)
