The diesel 1.9 on the alfa is bulletproof. Get the alfa... smile
Id get the Alfa also, but if this is the same as the current 1.9 as used my VX Saab and Fiat also, its far from bullit proof. Infact its full of problems.

Curious, but is there actually a reason to wanting/needing a FWD hatchback?
Nothing to do with being FWD really, they're just the cars i like for the price range. I was thinking of a 325/330 if i see one for £4,000 then i could go for that. Doesn't seem many.

Should get an e46 328i for that sort of money. Very similar performance to a 330i, look the same but with better steering.

Do everything you can to get the Leon Cupra R instead - if you don't you'll just wish you had when you see one. You can pick them up for under £5k now.

As nice as they are, as soon as you raise a budget you tend to keep raising it as you always see something else. So don't tempt me! smile

Think i've made up my mind. And i'm hopefully going for the Alfa.

Not just because of the price tag but small things like steering wheel controls, arm rest & cruise control. The Seat comes with none of these. And then you have the leather seats which you may as well say were standard as there's more leather seats then fabric in the 2.0.

The engine noise is fantastic, performance is spot on. I would obviously like more power then the 150 but i've got to think about the money side of things. My 147 averaged 20mpg & no more then around 25mpg (driving like a nun on A-roads) after changing the thermostat, so obviously something was still playing up.

Reliability was my main issue but i'll make sure to find one with a recent cambelt/variator change. If not i'll hopefully get some money off & get it done myself for peace of mind.
