Angry Mrs - but purchased a 1968 109 from original owner!

Excellent! The 6-cylinders are much nicer engines than the 2.25's, if somewhat underpowered. They are getting really rare now as a lot of people take advantage of the bigger 6-cyl engine bay to drop various other engines in.

The IOE engines are dreadfully inefficient, the 6 is no different. I wonder if you could fit one of the special cylinder heads from the P5 that got breathed on by Westlake? You could definitely fit the whole 3ltr as it's the same block.

And yes - the irony is that by the time the 6cyl was detuned for off road use it was barely more powerful than the 4cyl it replaced. Still, it made a much smoother engine to rag the tits off to get a fully laden 109 moving....
One of these days I am going to find an already-butchered 6-cyl 109 and slot in a Jaguar J60 - the engine it always should have had

Update! Arrived in glorious weather at the house of our dreams, where the gentleman who purchased the car 44 years ago transferred ownership to myself.
90 miles in a 109 is a little tiring, the steering certainly requires effort. Having driving there in an E90 330 automatic didn't help. However, we bonded and made it home in good humour and order.
The Mrs is happier. Just.
Dozens of items on my list of work and a mild oily incontinence to start with. A reader's car thread shall commence.
Photo from a layby on the way home, had to pull up next to it,

Ahh yours has the later set of dials to mine.
Glad to hear you made it back alright, the only Landie not to suffer from oily incontinence is a Landie that has no oil in it![wink](/inc/images/wink.gif)
That dashboard is exactly like the one I learnt to drive in - all it needs is a 'Botwoods of Bury St Edmunds' key fob.Glad to hear you made it back alright, the only Landie not to suffer from oily incontinence is a Landie that has no oil in it

Ref the oil - as the man said; get used to carrying a 4 litre ice cream tub of sand around with you to mop up after yourself!
