Mazda 6 Sport maybe? Don't think MPS versions are quite that good value yet.

I believe split/fold was standard on the coupe but an option on the saloon.

540i. If you're only doing 3,000 miles a year, fuel economy is a non-issue, and you'll have a V8.

9-5 Aero estate plus a remap.

All the car you and your family will ever need. And fast enough to surprise many things. And you'll get 30mpg without really trying. And change from your budget.

Volvo S60 T5. 250bhp and you should get a nice one for your budget.

Honda Accord Type-S.

Had ours for 7 years (as the family car) bar tyres, brake pads and the misses killing the clutch its cost £15 in one bush, just keeps going and sails thru the mot every time, we have done 70,000+ miles so far.. Keep thinking of changing it to get something new, but we might as well just run it into the ground now.

Yep - 270 bhp or so plus significant torque from a Noobtune at insignificant cost on standard mechanicals.

The 30 mpg without trying will be the bit I quibble with!
