You know how a 6 cylinder BMW should purr like a content cat? Well imagine a Simca that's not had an oil change for 5 years. Most of the rear lights work. It spent several weeks at work parked over a pool of it's own coolant, chomps its way through batteries, the dash is lit up like Southend sea front and it's not taxed, insured or MOT'd. But it looks the part and the Polish driver can lord it around.
biggrin Well, it sounds like it still works. biggrin

B5 S4.

Can be had at any price from £3k up to about £4.5 - £5k for a very well looked after one.

I'm on my second after a spell with an RS4.

The current one now has 140000 miles and going very well.

A remap will take it from 265hp up to about 320hp

It's rumoured that the turbos are a weak link but my first s4 had 125000 miles when I sold it and it popped up on autotrader with 165000 miles last year, current S4 has 140000 miles on original turbos and I heard from the guy I sold my RS4 to last week that it has 140000 miles and going well.
If they do fail it's an engine out job to replace them but see it as an "opportunity" to fit RS4 turbos to give you about 380hp 😀

One bad BMW doesn't mean they're all like that. Several years ago I was looking for cars in the sub 3 grand budget and came across a beautiful E36 328i, which had one fastidious Dr owner who threw everything at it. Foolishly I didn't buy it as it didn't have air con and as we were in the middle of a heat wave at the time, it seemed a bad idea not to have air con. Probably one of the worst car buying decisions I made. There are loads of lovely old Beemers out there that drive nicely, for under £5K.
