Am surprised you'd want to do that trip in a track prepped 172?? I'd have thought a standard one would be much more suitable...?

I've not drove it yet but imagine a lot of the surfaces to be eneven and bumpy??

I found the Tuscan (2S) a dream on my European tour last year, huge boot decent comfort and economy (open top was a major bonus on continent)

Think It might be getting too late in the year to attempt this in the m5???

Absolutely not. Do it!
Stick on cross climates if you're worried (sub 7c in am)

It's not Outer Mongolia ! Have done it many times in a Seven with lowered floor and I'd say the road surfaces are far better than the potholed and rutted roads in much of North Yorkshire . The road from Altnaharra east to Helmsdale(from memory) is a bit bumpy and there is the odd place around Loch Eriboll where spirited driving may result in the odd shower of sparks. Worst place of all is petrol station in Lairg - do not try to access from the N side!

Was more the fact that rollcage would instate confidence in attacking the corners that have large drops on the side!

Yep, we only drive tractors here after October. You'll never make it in an M5. You'll get stuck, or fall off the road and die a horrible death.
