Will never forget that Sunday morning I got to drive an original RUF CTR in Ontario.

Love the rollbar-cum-backseat there. "It's like a rollercoaster, kids!"

Dear car makers. This is how you design alloy wheels. Thanks, Phil.

Amazing car, but surely a well modified 997 Turbo will deliver similar performance, similar looks (with those Wheels) at a fraction of the cost.

If you need a RUF in your life Accept no subsitute I suppose if the moral of this article.

I'm not so sure, reminds me of after market wheels my mate had on his Nova GTE back in the day. Maybe they need to black over the yellow colour....hmmmm

The performance isn't the key point. I believe the exclusivity is.

Fair point. I just love flat spokes and depsise the modern, angular, spindley things car makers churn out. I'm looking at the VAG group whilst typing this.

I suppose it's the same as there being many ways of tuning a Merc but there being only one Brabus. If I had the money I'd definitely not be looking to save the money and go for real McCoy as it were. These are definitely more bespoke and complete a product than merely tuning a standard car but then the price reflects that.

If a bunch of guys called RUF do it then they get to put their name on it, it's cool. If Johnny down the road does it himself and has no badge to put on the back, he's apparently a 'chav.' Which gives a sense of the value of a badge.

Would Johnny down the road be able to create a product with the competence to be accepted as a manufacturer in their own right? That's the difference between a tuner and a bunch of guys that can produce a car that has been significantly re-engineered from the ground up.

Clearly those who denigrate RUF know nothing about them or their approach / attention to detail.

The German gov't wouldn't give just anyone manufacturer status (regs are different in Germany - you don't get back-alley tuners, or even big ones like Litchfields).

Love this car and would prefer it to the GT2rs as well. The problem with this is to really enjoy these cars you need to be on th verge of suicide mission or playing a Russian Roulette with both your license, your life/limb and those of others, their is also the small issue of our truly horrible roads and camera riddled as well. So in a nutshell you end up mostly repairing because of lack of proper use (and these cars need to be driven properly) or just poothling along most of the time.
For today’s world a basic Porker will do, for serious thrills, e30 m3, caterham, or smaller engined cars with high revving engines etc will do
