No idea why some are comparing to a VX220 - completely unrelated, other than it uses a variant of the 2.2 Ecotec engine found in some VX220's (as did most GM products of that time). Oh and its made by a GM subsidiary.
There you go, almost 50% there then! If you want your two-seater front engined rather than mid, then maybe this is the car for that.

I wouldn't mind betting they share a few more bits from the parts bin between them:

But why would you want a car that has a reputation for some less than sports car handling, when a more dynamic, lighter (930kg as opposed to 1542kg) vehicle honed by Lotus could be procured for a little bit more wedge? Not digging, just looking for other peoples views or justification.

BTW I wouldn't buy a Chrysler Crossfire over this, given the segment type, if that's any consolation

"the lack of any appreciable trunk space and the model’s less than intoxicating driving dynamics make it a toy with limited play value."

OK, it's apparently unique in the UK so you'll get points for that. It clearly has a small following here and I'll not knock that as it's a personal choice. But heart and head would make me at least consider something from a similar stable with a VX220 being in the running if I really wanted an older two-seat sports vehicle of similar styling and performance, and it wasn't an actual Lotus.

These were quite popular when they came out, but you simply don't see them at all here in the US now, or very rarely. I went to test drive one when the ex wifey wanted a 2 seater. The only outstanding thing I remember about it was there was literally NO luggage space, and especially with the manually folded top down. I could not see any way a couple could've taken one away for a long weekend break with more that a toothbrush and change of undies. The folding top was a pretty flimsy design too if I recall.

There was a closed coupe version, but I think they are very few and far between. Below should be a link to the Pontiac Solstice coupe version.

Reminds me of something very similar. Definitely not the only one in UK I know of at least 2 others.

Shame it didn't seem to be too good dynamically, as anything with 260bhp, RWD and an LSD ought to be fun!

But an Opal could be handy on a solo Euro road trip - even if just at toll-booths!

The Solstice Coupe looks fantastic - boot space may be limited, but I'm sure Top Gear said an F-Type Coupe offered a space-saver as an option, even if the full-size wheel removed wouldn't fit in the boot! laugh

I just like it for being a real looker and different.

Clearly I’m a bit of a wimp, but I spent a weekend in a pre release VXR turbo and came away cold, deaf and very stiff, which rather put me off buying one.

Sure, the car in the ad isn’t that light, but it’s only just a little heavier than the S2000, and probably makes a great GT. additionally, I think it looks lovely, and is probably cheap to service with its GM drivetrain.

Interesting car, a real shame about the auto slush box though.

I looked seriously at importing one of these when they were just released. It was coming in close to £35k at the time all in and it just wasn’t worth it.

They do drive nice though - I test drove one in New Jersey and really liked it. It’s still a bucket list car for me smile

Hmmmm. I think not.

As mechanisms to increase UV radiation while travelling go, I'll take walking over this.

A brilliant convertible overtaken by the banking crisis of 2008. Probably of no interest to anyone who's happy in a dreary saloon car....

It's a shame they never offered this in the UK in rhd. I saw one in bright yellow once, and thought how nice it was. World make a lovely candidate for a V8 swap.
