The woman is a stupid bh.
When i was a kid (Not too long ago) i didn't have all these brave people stepping in with speed cameras, pedo traps and boo boo kissers, and i'm still alive! Am i Christ reincarnated? The woman is a stupid bh.

Yeah, and you might want to keep your fanny closed until you can properly educate and look after what plops out of it, you stupid cow.I too grew up, along with about 15 of my mates, on a suburben road that folk used to, and still do drive along at 40mph+. If I got caught mucking around on the road by my parents or neighbors, I'd get a tannin of my mum, and an even being pasting off my dad when he came home.
Not once do I recall myself, or any of my mates getting run over or killed to death. Likely because from a very young age I was taught the green cross code, (Tufty Club anyone?), and if I did follow it I'd get beaten black and blue, litterally. That seemed to work.
However, if you feel that it would be better to install a speed camera to teach your kids road safety, instead of doing the job yourself, then I wish you look.
My boys stop, look, listen and cross the road to the letter of the tufty club but accidents happen and children can be distracted and there are disabled kids out their who aint got the sense you clearly had knocked into you.
I tend to trundle through urban areas & keep the more joyous leptons for wider and/or quieter parts of the world but TBH, I'm getting a bit tired of being punished in the name of the lowest common denominator. Something our plastic socialist politicians are fond of foisting on anyone but themselves.

And what percentage of all kids are disabled ?3% 5% 7% ?
The vast majority of kids aren't disabled, I suspect.
In reality, untrained kids and roads don't mix and
I'd very much prefer drivers looking out their
windows and doing some hazard management than
having to check their speedos against some Goverment
set numbers every few seconds.
You can't measure safe driving in miles per hour and
the subtitle of this website is "speed matters".
Anyway, driving fast saves time, which saves life.
Given the reasoning above, then people would be bouncing off bonnets here there and everywhere FFS. Maybe disabled people/children have more about them than some people think
All I am saying without getting health and safety/preaching is people should keep their speed down in built up areas and save it for open roads.
Oh! and Happy New Year to all at PH

You know, if these kids are so "disabled" that they can't understand the dangers of a road then they are unlikley to be crossing one unsupervised, as these kinds of people require care 24 hours a day. If they are fully mentally competent but require a wheelchair or such to get about then I doubt they will be trying to cut across the road and would be more likley to cross the road at a traffic-light controlled crossing. It's harsh, but if someone who should know better tries to cross a road in a dangerous place, popping out between two parked cars and cannot cross in time and gets hit by a car, then is it really the drivers fault that the kid didn't use the proper crossing? That said, if you get your wish everyone will be so busy staring at their speedo and not looking out for hazards eventually someone will probably plough straight on through a red light at a crossing and kill someone anyway.

I don't have kids, but I was taught the green cross code and common sense at a young age. As a cop, my dad had more than enough stories of what happened to people when cars hit them. I don't think you can do anything better to protect your kids than educate them. Whenever I was leaving the house to go and play out, it was always "Be careful crossing the roads" and not "God, I wish we had another speed camera to protect the kids".
That idea that people can't look after themselves is exactly the kind of personal inadequecy that the government wants to fester away inside you. You can't look after your kids, so let them stick another fking speed camera on the road. They make a stack of cash and your kids are still alive, so everyone wins right? Except the motorist, dignity and freedom, and common sense, which died a fking death a while back!

I'm a father, and I loathe speed cameras (and to a slightly lesser extent, the attitude towards them displayed in earlier posts).
I'm of the opinion that crossing the road in a safe place and manner is THE MOST important thing in pedestrian safety. After all, 20% live at 40mph, 80% live at 30mph, but 100% live when you make sure there isn't a bloody car in the road before you walk into it.
My eldest is just old enough now (2) that when we're out for a walk he is allowed to ramble about within a certain distance from us. That also means he has had to learn to STOP at the edge of the road - and has been very good at doing so. This is probably in part due to myself and his mum watching like a hawk and being prepared to lunge forward as he approaches the kerb, and giving him a verbal hiding the second his foot leaves the pavement, if that should occur.
There seems to be no emphasis on teaching safe crossing these days, it seems to be entirely upon the driver, which is a sad state to be in. It seems not to be a problem with, for example, crossing train tracks, though - if anyone manages to get themselves hit by a train, it appears to be entirely socially acceptable to think them an utter idiot.

1. The 80% survival thing has already been shown to be based on 1970s vehicles, survival rates for modern vehicles are much higher.
2. Having said that, if you have time this morning, go run flat out face first into a brick wall & then come back & let us know a. did it hurt? b. what speed did you reach when you hit the wall? & c. would you still be happy for someone to hit one of your children at 29mph?
3. I suspect most here(not all), recognise the dangers presented by driving in built up areas & drive at appropriate speeds for the conditions whilst showing reasonable levels of observation due to the fact that they take pride in their driving. As we all know there are plenty who drive like morons (be it at 40mph or 20mph).I would suggest it is these that present the greatest danger to your kids so as others above have already mentioned, the best you can do is teach them how to behave around roads.

To point out, I generally don't speed at all, as a younger driver I couldn't afford the points or the premiums, and my car is hardly a thrill machine anyway. It's not like a plough my foot to the floor for the sake of it. I certainly don't condone speeding in built up areas either and think that people who get ticketed in residential areas generally don't have a leg to stand on. But yeah, your dignity, not mine!

Speed cameras are NOT the only way to enforce 30mph zones. They are also very 'black and white' - something which road safety certainly is not.
Speed in urban areas is very time and location-sensitive:-
- past a school at 8.30am, 20mph is plenty, thanks. But at 8.30pm I'd suggest 30 isn't unreasonable. And at 2am I'd suggest 40mph isn't really a problem.
- on a wide urban through-road at 8.30am 30mph wouldn't be excessive - 35 may be OK. At 8.30pm 35mph would probably be a very typical speed and 40mph MIGHT be OK, and at 2am 40mph above really wouldn't be a big problem.
Yet both roads right now probably have 30 limits. Where do you think most speed cameras are currently sited - yep, on the wider, safer through-roads to snare more drivers!
As for kids:-
- kids will be kids - they won't always think;
- but if their parents haven't educated them properly, then don't make it someone else's fault! Repetition is a very good way of making something subconscious so a child DOESN'T NEED to think...caution near roads becomes ingrained - it certainly was with me.
