ok, so question for Dan:

Now you've had some time to properly get to know the focus, can you answer the question you posed when this car first came on to the PH fleet; is a fully spec'd up focus ST wagon better than a poverty spec 135i BMW?
Good question.

I want to like Fords but don't like the current dash they all share, only model I would buy is a focus ST or focus RS, I still like the 1970"s 1980"s Fords more.
Your right. Now they just throw crud together thinking that replicating the Aston Martin grille will give it panache and a prestige look.

Notice, there's some serious discounting £17,258 for the ST hatchback, £18,410 for the ST2 and £19,945 for the ST3
£18,103 for the ST estate, £19,254 for the ST2 and £20,789 for the ST3 at buyacar (not checked anywhere else)

tempting ?

^ At those prices, the estate should make people think hard before deciding whether to buy an Octavia vRS or not. It has no other meaningful rivals, I think.

never understood people who have an estate then put bikes on the roof. I've a 944 and can still get 2 (big) bikes and 2 people inside (wheels off) - with that thing you should just be able to sling them in..

So the new ST Estate TDCi should be just about perfect then?

The diesel one's not for me. For the fun stuff it's too nose-heavy. For the day-to-day stuff I do too much stop/start to make diesel viable or cost effective. Petrol all the way here, for now.

Hmmm, not for me I think, although fast wagons do give me wood.

Think I will opt for the new upcoming Octavia VRS and buy a bigger wallet in which to keep the £3-6k I could save (figs dependent on std or upgraded costs quoted in article.)

IMHO I think the Skoda is more of a finished article looks wise and does everything the ST will but for less. To me fast Fords always look like the designers young child has got hold of the original concept and stuck bits of lego to it.
By the time you have added similar options the vrs will cost more than the st3 . The Ford is a bit of a bargain
