I think Porsche are missing a trick with the likes of Singer stealing some of their classic thunder. Why not do a continuation of some older classic models. For sheer provenance you cannot beat models that actually come out of the factory gates.
The reason is that firstly it undermines their strategy of presenting Continuous perceived evolutions of a product in order to sell more units, as a case in point my neighbour had a 3.2 987 new at the time and when the m97 3.4 engine came out in 2007 with 15bhp more he was considering swapping. It undermines that situation to go back to a previous generation as though admiring that electric steering, water cooling, large wheels, seatbelt, abs, traction control or whatever do dilute the car

Also more importantly the reason singer and Paul French and all these companies require a donor car is that what the buyer ends up with is a modified original car so it doesn't have to pass SVA approval which a new car would, this would make the car impossible to engineer as there would be so much requirement for safety features, airbags, low emissions etc

The development cost would be huge and the market small - ok for a boutique place with 10 staff or whatever to turn out several cars a year for half a mill or thereabouts each, but to spend £10's of millions tooling up an industrial line would probably not make sense and even if they did it would undermine their product strategy as per before

As this is a marketing exercise to showcase their new service then I don't this they've succeeded here judging by the comments on here. Personally I think it's hideous but then I always thought the 993 was a munter (the 996 ran it a close second) but they did drive well.

I'm amazed about these negative comments about the 993 's looks. Each to their own and all that but I thought it was generally considered one of the prettiest 911s.

A few posters are missing the point of this car completely.

It's intended as a showcase for Porsche Classic and Exclusive Manufaktur. All is explained in the article. So if you own a 993 or want to restore one it showcases what is possible and that Porsche have all the parts. It is also a marketing exercise for Exclusive Manufaktur following the successful and visually similar 991 Turbo. It doesn't matter if you don't like the colour or think it should have had different seats. The idea is that given the money you can customise your car as you wish.

For me, I love it! And I normally have much more conservative tastes. I think it's a great idea to follow the 991 with the same theme. I also saw Jason Plato's 991 Turbo S at the Silverstone Classic. His has the same treatment but on a black car with gold accents - looked stunning.

I look forward to more of the same from Porsche. Better still, let's see something akin to the latest Williams Singer. Now that would be something!
I get the point it is to highlight Porsche Classic services.

But why produce a lower spec car than the original and if you're going to produce a version with a nod to a modern day alternative, follow it through don't do half a job.

It's a missed opportunity to create something really special.

Can't see how it's really half a job though. They had a remit and they fulfilled it. They clearly didn't set out to do a Singer and this surely would require a level of development resource from the Classic department that currently isn't there. It's Porsches own restoration department and how far they should go?Arguably companies such as Singer will always do a better job of the restomod concept

993 was the last truly desirable shape Porsche to me. 996,997,991 don't really hold any appeal. I'm not a fan of the colour but it's lovely either way.

The interior is great.

The exterior looks like a 55 year old jazazzle beautician’s weekend motor were her new line in anal bleaching to take off cash wise

As for the car, iirc the 993 Turbo S had a double level rear spoiler which looked at least to these eyes better than the melted cheese 993 Turbo one.

Was privileged enough to have a run down Brunters in a non-S but breathed upon version putting out more power than a non-S a few years back at VMAX. The car felt like it was hewn from a piece of granite and had so much push up to about 170 when the upright windscreen started getting in the way of the acceleration. Wonderful cars. I wonder if Flemke still have his Turbo S version?

Lovely car but if money was no object, I would have done the same with a 964 carrera 4 lightweight. To this day, people who have drove one thinks that it is the best Porsche ever made.
