RE: You Know You Want To: Morris Minor
Discussion
I was amazed to see this on the front page and to get so many comments.
A few replies:
Nic Manns Minor was a huge influence on us and is an awesome car. There is no disputing that it was incredibly fast and the ultimate Minor in certain respects.
Fiat engine: When this car was first thought of over 15 years ago the accessible performance engine choices were limited. Fiat engines were avaialble for £100 and putting on a 16V Integrale head gave reasonable performance. I have a history of using Fiat engines, know them well and have lots of spares.
Only 190 Bhp: The engine is not all about ultimate power.... this was built for torque and produces 179 lb / ft, will pull tick over in 3rd and run at 30mph in 5th.
One of my cars ran 12.81 1/4 mile with 135 bhp........
Insurance: Modified classics are relatively cheap. The insurance company know everything about the car.
Value: The difficult one. How do you value it? There is well over £20K worth of high quality parts and 6 years of work. But ultimately it is worth what someone will pay for it. Many people who know the car well think that I am giving it away at £14K.
I have to admit the low light looks different but as with every aspect of the car there is good reasoning. I was obsessed with C of G and the low light gives a lower C of G plus better aero. The C of G and rearward weight bias made me think about things. For example the orientation of the fasteners is such that the nut is always positioned in the lowest rearward position.
I am hopeful the car will go to a good home and continue to be used and enjoyed.

Either you get it, or you don't. I don't get people spending silly money on an Audi/BMW/MX5 that looks just like every other Audi/BMW/MX5 that's been made.
And as my Mum always says 'if you've nothing nice to say, say nothing at all'
Spot on. I love it! I think it's one of the " if you have to explain, you won't understand" things. Which is fair enough, cos I don't get the fast Audi/BMW thing at all. If I had that sort of money I'd love something like that! And as my Mum always says 'if you've nothing nice to say, say nothing at all'
