....The fact is that it's driven by supply and demand as most markets are. If there is demand at the higher prices the manufacturer is going to pitch prices at the best they can get. The purpose of these private corporations is to make a profit not to give it away altruistically. Best to not dwell too much on it or you'll give yourself an ulcer
If the CRT was priced at 200k Euros, would they sell any?BMW had trouble selling the E9 CSL at circa £8k in 1972, the M1 in 1979 at circa £25k, in 2003 the E46 CSL at £60k

In this case it doesn't really matter as it's very much a showcase for some new materials technology rather than a serious model run. And interesting as your point is, there's not a lot of point in comparing what happened in the past. Fact is they HAVE sold them all this time.
With the benefit of hindsight I think the E46 CSL should have been cheaper OR even more exotic. I remember a BMW M guy being interviewed about the CSL and bullishly predicting 200kg savings re the stock E46 and GT2 levels of performance. Fact is that when it arrived it was less than 100kg and performance was only marginally better (and it was SMG only ) and that seemed poor value for an additional £16k. I'm certainly not saying that they aren't actually great cars , just that at the time that was why they struggled to sell em all.
Good point about the E9 CSL and M1 though. Kind of a recurring theme with BMW (and GTS was similar I think even though they only tried to shift 20 UK cars)
