I can't say I really understand the aversion to platform sharing. The platform is only one minor part of what make a car. Don't forget "platform" these days tends to define where the engine sits relative to the firewall, steering rack and front axle and not a great deal else. We're not in the 60s where manufacturers simply bolt different bodies onto the same chassis to produce different cars.

For me it's not so much the platform sharing that is the issue, it's the fact that this is being sold as a 4 door version of the GT sports car, when all it is is a (rather heavy) tarted up E class. Had the CLS never existed, I don't think this would matter so much, but like the new M8 being an expensive update of an M6, this rather cynical badge engineering will detract from the desirability of the car. Not for everyone, and as a purchase 2-3 years down the line it will have its attractions, but to those that can afford one, that do have an interest in cars, and that do care a bit about pouring tens of thousands of £ down the drain this stuff matters!
Maybe and I get the GT point.I’m going to test one and see what it’s like.
Review says it’s a better drive than the E63s and I enjoy that greatly.
Proof will be in the pudding.....

I think it's very easy to read a review and just say, 'how can it cost that much when it's only based on an E Class' but I suspect the link to the E Class would be undetectable by the vast, vast majority of drivers. I can't imagine any RR buyer would care about the 7 series DNA, particularly when it's really just structure (760i aside).

Which is lovely, except for the top half of the dash being lifted straight out of an E Class, with added gay disco, and the centre console being a complete fking abhorration that looks like it was lifted right out of a different car. I don't think this car would be for me but I'll reserve judgement until I get to sit in it.
