The car was also a fking pain to start when it was hot due to boiling its fuel, but we didn't suffer the problem anything like as much on French petrol.
Did you ever try the anti-percolation kit?My brother owned an F-plate, in pearl white back in the mid 90's. It was std and put around 80k on the clock. At the same time, I owned a G-reg 205 1.9 GTI. Have to say, the turbo lag on the R5 was appauling, but in a unique way was quite special.. I don't think I would want to own an R5 as the quality was terrible, overheating, seats collapsing etc.... I would however get another Pug. They were just so good for their time..
