By 'down size enabler' do you mean that instead of promoting the extra power or performance of the same size engine they say to get the equivalent to a 2.0l you would only need a 1.5l Prius?
I bloody hope not as that means smaller and smaller engines in the future instead of faster and faster
What is an ICE car?
Yes thats why they selected 2.0 for the study, same as you could do a similar comparison between a 2.0 and 1.5 Turbo.I bloody hope not as that means smaller and smaller engines in the future instead of faster and faster

ICE = Internal Combustion Engine.
It frustrates me somewhat that people believe everything that Clarkson says about hybrids. He's a funny and generally quite well informed, but he does let his prejudice get in the way about some things.
I congratulate Johnny for actually posting some empirical data for a change. It's unfortunately very uncommon these days, and I can't help but feel that this ridiculous mistrust of scientific data is largely down to the modern press. People seem to take opinion as gospel and, when presented with some hard evidence, dismiss it with 'clearly just a big conspiracy. It's just massaged to prove a point'. A valid point perhaps, but an argument means nothing without something to back it up. If you so believe that they're massaged, find some relevant valid data to support your argument that the CO2 output is worse for a hybrid over it's lifespan.
Much like anyone else, I have my own opinions about these things, but if I'm presented with a good and valid argument with good examples to back it up, I can be persuaded to see the alternative point of view. But..and here's the big but...if the other persons argument is poorly constructed and largely based on opinion and speculation, it makes me dig my heals in even more!
So....please. More posts like Johnny's please. Let's not let PH turn in to yet another internet slagging match. The winter tyre 'discussion' has been bad enough. With Hybrids an inevitable part of our future, I don't want to think that every topic about them in future will illicit such tiresome responses!
