I've had many people lust after a Dodge Viper GTS, but when they actually sit inside it they find it quite tight for them. the pedal rack moves backward and forward to attempt to cater for those with longer legs but for some there knees are jammed up either side of the steering wheel making it impossible for them to use the car! On the RT/10s the window top frame can also be a pain as its quite thick and this can also impede vision for taller bodied drivers. I have fitted a 1" seat lowering kit in my car which helps when using a helmet at track days. But I have had many people leave the car dissapointed that could not fit frown

I sat in the drivers seat of a GT40, and hated it, I felt like I was lying on my back and it was very tight,

Its a stunning iconic car but i would not like to drive one, but being over 6ft 2" it was not designed for someone like me!

I have to drive shoeless, I've never been able to find shoes which don't ruin my heel/toe
Have you tried racing boots? As the unfortunate owner of comedy sized clown feet I find that either racing boots (in my case, Adidas Ferozas) or barefoot style shoes (I have some barefoot Merrells that they seem to have since stopped making which are great) are the thing to drive in.
Or try Puma Speed Cat.

Dan Gurney was 6' 4" when he won Le Mans in one ...It did have a bulge in the roof for his head .

The one I sat in did not have the bubble. Driving one on the track one could probably cope, but driving one on the road being that low is scary as hell!

Are you implying he was taller when he started, or that the bulge wasn't there before the race?

Ach. I had the same problem with a Suzuki Cappuccino I went to see in Slough (I travelled from Maidenhead, too). Still hurts me now, so I can empathise.
THIS, gentlemen, is why I will always love Pistonheads.
You should try it in a Hillman Imp! At least it had an opening rear window hatch hehe

Better still - a Sunbeam Stilleto (and that's not something out of Danger Mouse!)

Sorry - he was 6'4 50 years ago but Dan is now in his late eighties and has probably shrunk a little.

EFA...That wasn't a GT40 it was a Ford GT MkIV, a completely different car. Though he did of course race the GT40 too, complete with the "Gurney bubble"

It was indeed a different car to the Mk 1 (68 and 69 winner) Mk 2(66 winner)and road car Mk 3 , but its full nomenclature was still GT 40 .

I've wanted a Porsche 911 since I was 5. The 930, then later the 964 were exactly what I was after.
So after around 25 years I have the cash to buy and run one as a second car.

Of course I don't fit, head against roof, knees against the dash and my back is too wide for the seat. I took it out anyway to confirm that 8 minutes was long enough for things to start to cramp and there was no point in continuing.

It may be possible to make me fit by changing the drivers seat for something much lower and further back but that's a bit of a gamble and I don't want to ruin the car.

Arse.
Christ, how tall are you.

I'm 6"3' and fit fine in my 3.2 carrera, and that has the more bulky electric seats. Try some RS style seats ?
I'm 6''2" but quite long in the back so headroom is usually an issue. I think I've comprehensively missed the boat as far as air cooled 911s are concerned though. They're just too much money now.

I can certainly get into the 996 but it was never the dream car, the potential fragility also puts me off. I'd also have to sell my BMW 645 and I'm still too fond of it.

PH towers, you should have used the photo of the actual car I posted in the thread. Sure, a Miura looks great on a sculpted lawn, but the car I viewed had a much more exotic stance and was in the middle of the most humdrum industrial estate which made the sheer sculpture of the shape all the more other worldly.

Sorry, I'll shut up now...
