Not a brill pic but I can't find a better one at the moment.
That's about £6.5k of mods, more than I have spent on anything else since.

1310
Stage 4 head
296 cam
1.5 rockers
pistons
rods
weber 45
exhaust/manifolds
steel crank
sc/cr box
sc drops
lsd
alloy 4 pot brakes
coilovers
solid mounted everything
buckets/harnesses
full cage
big stereo
Superlites - Yokohamas
Almost certainly more things that I forget.

It still holds my personal record from home to the county town down the back roads. Clio V6 and Megane RS can't get close!

Edit: Oh yeah, radiators, oil coolers. It just wouldn't stay at a decent temperature, and it would get very upset. Could never get it to run at a normal temperature.

Spitting out head gaskets and the like.

I’d hate to think how much a Singer engine build costs

Even those Alfaholics engines that put out 290bhp must be some price
Retro power did their Alfa with a 2.7 Millington diamond engine for circa 25k if I recall.
You'd be at least the same with Alfaholics for one of their twinsparks, expensive but does what it says on the tin.

I don't understand why you'd piss away so much cash on an old Fiesta ST. You're hardly adding any value to it, why don't you just sell it, add the 5k and buy something better?
I don't understand why anyone would buy a Lexus 400, but each to their own. The wonderful thing about tweaking things is you can sometimes end up with sometihng far greater than the sum of its parts. To the point where something worth 2-3 times as much would actually hold zero interest.
Yep. The line "just sell it....and buy something better" says it all. smile
Indeed: If I have to explain you wouldn't understand.

I like to build my own modifications.

This means that the cost of the modification that goes on the car is a couple of quid, but there's hundreds of pounds of scrap in the bin and hundreds of pounds of tools in the shed eek

It's sat in my garage gathering dust! I'm too busy with work to do anything with it at the moment. When i retire i might use it to scare myself into an early grave.... ;-)

Perfect candidate for a Time Attack Pro 2WD entry.

Bought My Civic Type r in 2017.

And started out with a k and n filter , then too much to mention , Bilstein Coilovers , Quaife box plus rebuild and AP brakes were the biggest contenders.

The car cost me 3750 and i spent 12 grand on it ! I went the Throttle body way aswell. Binned those , 25 quid of fuel lasted 40 miles.

I appear to have the modifying addiction too.

I had a factory built westfield with a 1.8 130bhp zetec. I ended up replacing the engine with a 2.1 litre, with uprated cams, big valve head and throttle bodies. Added an LSD with longer ratio, Nitron suspension, removed a lot of weight, including replacing seats, wheels and exhaust, plus lots of other little things. Strangely, once I'd run out of things I wanted to modify, I moved it on.

I replaced it with a nice turbo'd mx5 telling myself that someone else has spent the time and money and I'll just drive it. Four years on I've probably spent as much again on it as I did buying it. But it hasn't lost a penny in depreciation.

I've even added HID lights, an android headset and an inflatable lumber to my Skoda Roomster!

I don't really track this stuff in detail but the Ferrari is certainly over 60, the Fiesta must be around 25, and the M3 15, which I made back - so far I have done on all of my project cars.

Labour time isn't included of course because its a hobby not a business!

Rocket.

Previous weekend / track day car was a bare chassis build of an S1 Elise with a forged Honda K20 SC/CC with about 380bhp, Nitrons, carbon seats, AP brakes etc. the guy who had it built had spent close to £70k! I bought it for £28k ended up spending another £5k trying to finish it off but couldn't make it reliable and was too noisy for most tracks so sold it on for what I'd pay for it, looked good though.

Since selling that bought a manual 987.2 Cayman S and spent about £10k modifying with exhaust, Ohlins suspension, Wavetrac diff, engine mounts etc. Still loads to do but enjoying the journey, reality is though probably could have bought a Cayman R and now keep eyeing up Boxster Spyders...

Then there is the Honda Beat bought for £500 but will end up costing 10x more and currently looks like this, I've got it bad.

I modify every single car, period. Daily drivers or projects, nothing is left untouched. It's just a compulsion!

Mods bill at Awesome gti when is finished modding just over ten grand just didn’t know when to stop but know of loads who spent more than that .... madness
Sold the car a year later for £24k got a bout £3k from parts .... yup lost a fking fortune

Then 2017 Audi TTS just under £40k

Remap and dsg remap £900

Current 2018 S3 bought last year £38k

Mod bill £2300 that was done at the start and haven’t been inclined to spend another penny and won’t this time or ever again having done it in every car in the last twenty years

Probaly lost around £40k on changing and modding cars in recent times
Its interesting as all these are very similar cars to start with. Chassis and engine. All nice cars though!

£1.99 plus postage.

I even went for a smaller more subtle sticker this time. Discreet behind the tinted glass and colour coded to match the bodywork.

Does adding a dashcam count?

I bought a tired, rattly, rusty 1982 911 SC in 2012 for £7.5k

And spent £70k modifying it. Everything has been replaced or upgraded. Engine is now a 3.6 Varioram, gearbox rebuilt with Quaife LSD, suspension is Bilstein Street Sports, brakes, etc. Backdated to a 72-ish look without wanting to try to faithfully recreate any particular car, but picking bits I liked from the back catalogue.

I then took it to Germany and drove the Nordschleife.

Lovely.
Money well spent in my opinion.

Thanks for all the positive comments on the old 911. It took a lot of heartache, cash, sweat, tears and sleepless nights, but it's done and it's my perfect car.

Not a massive 911 or Porsche fan but it is a rather splendid interpretation of a classic. I'd have one.

I think it's money well spent in every way. Without due diligence, I wouldn't be surprised if it is financially worth more than the rebuild cost. It looks a million dollars, but is probably only worth a tenth of that smile.
