No parking is the only absolute prohibition.
Unless there is a marked parking area or lay-by, for example:

The correct answer is none of the above, Double white lines in the centre does not prohibit parking at the side, it restricts vehicles from crossing them.

Big Gray area, but if the poll is designed to catch people out, it needs wording more accurately...
Is that Snake Pass? I'm assuming the "P&S" lorry is broken down?

I am also VERY surprised at the results considering this is a car forum.

B is correct. At least if you look at the photo Rich posted there are some very clear markings denoting the edge of the carriageway from the parking area.

does it not state "do not cross or straddle the solid line on your side of the carriageway" ?

as opposed too "do not overtake"

I don't think it matters as even "do not cross or straddle the solid line on your side of the carriageway" is not without a clause, so would be incorrect too?

Has no-one posted this yet?

'Double white lines where the line nearest you is solid. This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less.'

I googled the Highway Code just to see if my memory was correct, and it was...

130

Areas of white diagonal stripes or chevrons painted on the road. These are to separate traffic lanes or to protect traffic turning right.

* if the area is bordered by a broken white line, you should not enter the area unless it is necessary and you can see that it is safe to do so
* if the area is marked with chevrons and bordered by solid white lines you MUST NOT enter it except in an emergency
