If it were me I'd spend the 12k on the M3. 10k will only really get you a pretty leggy one to be honest. As for the Porsche, I'd love one however for 12k again it's going to be a bit long in the tooth. For the same money you'll get a newer, lower milage M3. If you were to up your budget then I'd go for the Porsche.
As for running costs, no idea what the Porsche would cost you, but the M3 is relatively cheap for what it is.

That looks like a good example, though the interior view shows some wear on the driver's seat (I think). If this is the case I doubt that mileage is accurate. The leather in any E46 I've owned deteriorates after about 90k on the clock. Although if the driver is portly...WEHGuy said:
Looks good value although if things like brakes, tyres and inspection 2 need doing you could be in for a big bill in the near future Black M3 Coupe, 18", TV & 'Nav, red leather, owner moving abroad so might negotiate on already nice £9k price...
Inspection II already complete, 6 mths VED, 11 mths MoT, 74k miles, FSH..

fk it, I'm going to offer on that myself!

My point was if he was intending on using it as a commuting car then for those times you literally cannot driver faster than flow of traffic and overtaking is impossible due to constant oncoming traffic. As such you will not be wearing them out at a high rate tyres brakes during these periods which will certainly be the highest usage the car gets. Unless it's a second car.
Why is someone suggesting cheppo rubber on this car? £500 a set... You buy the car for the handling tyres are key buy the best michelin pilot sport 3's. Leave those kuhomos etc for the fabia vRS etc owners buy a fast car get the proper kit
But my Khumos perform great on both road & track. It's not about the price. Why is someone suggesting cheppo rubber on this car? £500 a set... They were ranked second in the 2010 Evo tyre test http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2010-EVO-FWD-...
And get the M3, you wont regret it, they are fantastic cars.
Cheers,
Steve

I did.
Went from an M3 to a Porsche GT3 and now I'm in a CSL.
Porsche undoubtedly clinches it for 'specialness' (but only in Turbo or GT flavour), but the CSL is a better road car and more fun on track.
Now you've had a few M3's & a (very nice) Csl you had a GT3 for about a few weekends .Went from an M3 to a Porsche GT3 and now I'm in a CSL.

The track days M3/CSL you had lots of time in but the GT3 you span off & wrecked the clutch so its not a fair comparison really as you were unable to handle the Gt3 without the "Drivers aids " ... how's that wrist

I'm not sure exactly what you're getting at, however having been a passenger with GP and watched him pedal a few cars around I think you're talking totally out of your arse.unless this is an in joke that I've missed somewhere

He's been stalking me for a couple of years now, both on here and via personal email. I keep telling him I don't feel the same way, but he just won't listen.
Still, it's kinda cute.
Oh well I decided to go with the M3. Maybe get a 911 next year. It was booked in for an inspection today with a BMW specialist and the only thing that came up, is an exhaust bracket will need to be replaced. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. It's a Yellow 2002 manual M3 Coupe, 65k miles, 2 owners, FSH with piles of paperwork, HPI clear, recent service, 4 new tyres and supposedly fully loaded apart from the satnav. I'm not sure about the colour but, my priorities is always to buy the best car for the money. As long as it's not pink, colour doesn't really bother me.
PS. I will put up some pictures in the next couple of days with a tin of Birds Custard, of course.

Well I got it and I am happy but, have to admit, I am a bit scared of it. Any tips on driving it?

Honestly, you shouldn't be scared of it. If it's in good mechanical condition and has decent tyres, inflated correctly, you should be fine. I would get some driver training for both limit handling and road hazard awareness. The M3 is a very capable car, it is not at all twitchy, if you take the time to learn the basics well it will be very rewarding.Pictures to follow within the next couple of days.
Or, and I don't wish to be disrespectful, you could just own the car and always be intimidated by it, in which case a 318i might of been a better choice, though to be fair a 318i driven well is also a very capable car.
