The Pits said:
The irony is, by making it bland they hoped it would appeal to people who like porsches!

The evora's appearance is pleasing to my eye, there's more than a hint of Lancia Stratos about it, but it lacks the raw appeal needed to silence the boring risk-averse side of the brain that wants to play safe and get a porsche. The styling does not adequately reflect the utter brilliance of the car underneath.

for me it's a sad day when Lotus decided they should copy porsche. lest we forget, the myopic dumkopfs with only one, tedious design language which gave the world the Cayenne and somehow even more hideous Panamera.
The underside of my Boxster is covered in oil. Research reveals endless stories of RMS, bore scoring and IMS failure (all of which I knew about before buying).

Where the hell does this 'playing safe' idea come from?

Agreed about the Lancia Stratos comparison, the newer models anyway. The last few posts seem to suggest the Evora is not quite radical enough in terms of styling though....unless I have misunderstood. I think it is quite out there and something pretty different as it is, maybe not quite so in dark colours, but have you seen the red, orange, yellow and White ones? They are certainly not bland and certainly stand out from the generic German school of design. The back end is a bit clumsy on the Evora...I thought that as soon as they came out..wrong balance of spoiler to rear light to diffuser ratio in terms of scale...but the front end is spot on. The new Models proposed by Lotus, like renew Elise and Esprit, also take it to the next level again and I hope they see the light of day.

Fingers crossed, they all look stunning.

I agree with your statements re the Evora styling. The front is fine (GTE style is wonderful) and the 3/4 view is very well done and beautifully intricate but the rear is a let down especially with the integrated spoiler but it certainly is a step on from the Europa smile
