Launch control on a road car? Bit naff or best thing ever...

. A lot of performance cars are now some form of duel clutch auto, and cynical marketing tool or not, having a function that allowed you to be a total yob off the line is FUN. Which is kind of the point isn't it?
You're not being a yob. The electronics are. Naff. Naffer than Naff TBH.As previously stated - sitting their with a steely grin and dropping the clutch and using your own throttle input is real FUN. That and the jeopardy factor of screwing the whole process up and being done by a housewife in her Micra over the first 30m. That's what gets the adrenaline going

It's the same bloody thing ! You hold one pedal with the left foot, and full throttle with the right. Then you dump the clutch/brake and off you go..
For the record, I prefer manual cars too, but that doesn't detract from my enjoyment of an LC. Conceited, But there is a theater to it, which is a laugh.

Kids, Ehh
At least my predictive text can spell theatre properly

It isn't the same bloody thing . You have to modulate both pedals. Sometimes you have the added complication of a handbrake. Having someone/something else do it isn't fun. Unless trapping yours in the zipper is deemed pleasurable.

Tempted to get mock offended by the "Kids, Ehh" comment, but I am aware my argument is Null and Void on PH due to speeeling errors .Kids, Ehh

Facile analogy number 972, but an electric hand whisk is still a hand whisk, even if you cant Modulate ..
I don't see why it has to be mutually exclusive. Launching a quick car is fun, regardless if you do it, or the car does.

I can't bring myself to do it over mechanical sympathy. And like others have said..... Where's the fun?
I've seen countless TV reviews from Tiff and Clarkson et al who have all switch it off after discovering it's rubbish.
Typically, Tiff Needell and Jeremy Clarkson present entertainment shows not car review programs. I'd look for a better review of the technology.I've seen countless TV reviews from Tiff and Clarkson et al who have all switch it off after discovering it's rubbish.
To put in words that the Playstation generation, might understand:
Its like playing a first person computer game in 'easy' mode with 'unlimited ammo' and 'invulnerability' turned on.
You might get a great score to impress your nerdy friends, but the 'skill' aspect has been totally removed and you now are just following some story line.
Its much more fun to have a bit of a challenge in your life, like an online combat game where you get to T-Bag some Frenchman or Yank after shooting him - knowing full well he is still watching you on his screen.

Everyone is being very sensible in this thread.
Its no different than doing a handbrake turn in principle. Totally, utterly pointless unless you are on a rally stage, but I defy any petrolhead not to grin when you execute a good handbrake turn in a suitable place...
Not sure I agree with this: launch control is just a bit of fun, but handbrake turns are extremely useful - when it's very slippery out, and there isn't enough grip at the front to turn in (as quickly as you might want to), you can use the handbrake to help the car into a turn.
