I had a Disco 3 (from 18 months) and a Disco 4 from new. Both the diesel engine that could explode. Both cars were actually pretty much faultless over more than a decade. I was however always a little worried when out of warranty that mine may have snapped a crank and JLR customer service is worse than terrible. I had to use The Small Claims Court to get a main dealer to cough up for damage done to my car (tip here is always take images of your undamaged car on the dealer forecourt when you drop it off).

Adblue system now mapped out
Now she’s 210bhp and 490nm or their abouts.

Feels a hell of a lot quicker, I’ve not told the wife, I never drive it so will be interesting if she notices.

Interestingly I dealt with a live lane breakdown on the A303 yesterday.

Landrover, but a 2.0D Ingenium engine. Apparently has been in for work recently. Low oil warning came on and then engine stopped.

I broke it to him gently!

I feel for him. Usually the guides fail, pieces in the sump, block the oil pickup and its game over like i experienced.

I was trying to be positive sticking a chain kit on it 😂

We had two F paces and one xf with these engines and all three went past 100k (company rep use) with just normal servicing. None had any issues but they were doing long distances and about 30k a year.

We now only buy petrols now due to our non exec PSA fleet all going haywire, ad blue injectors, pat fluid injectors, dpfs going nuts etc. Seems like anything diesel after 2016 became a mission in emissions control over reliability. Ironic that diesel gate happened in 2015 and that coincides with all diesels after that date being absolute rubbish.

Feel your pain with this car. I had the exact same model, worst road handling I've ever came across and the engine felt like it was going to pack in at any moment. I offloaded it in a private sale before it all went wrong. Guess what? I got a message from the guy about a year later asking some questions as it had started having engine problems. I told him that it was fine when sold and couldn't help him further. Lucky escape. The only car I've owned worse than this was a Range Rover Sport, absolute money pit!
Now drive a Volvo as my daily.

So to finish this story off.

I finally got it on the ramp….front left wheel bearing was knackered.

Replace that in 30mins and there’s now no lights on the dash, pulls well and runs well.

We’re off on holiday in a couple of weeks and then I think it’s going.

Despite all the negativity around the 2.0 Ingenium engine, the wife’s just went over the one hundred thousand mile mark today, with touch wood no issues. It’s serviced regularly and gets regular oil top ups.

They’re hit and miss.

It’s a shame, it’s a lovely vehicle.

I’ve probably put the scud on it, but yes they are lovely motors when they are working like they are supposed to.

She’s probably stuck with hers as no one wants them as a trade in, once they see the 2.0D they just don’t want to know.

My wife ordered a brand new Toyota hilux, was delivered last week with 6 miles on the clock, at 30 miles it proceeded to tell us that it was doing a dpf regen....

WTF, how can a dpf thats done 30 miles in total need a regen lol. At least it tells you its doing it and when its complete.

DPF, EGR, Swirl Flaps more trouble than there worth. Our old RAV D4d need eded up with the EGR blanked off and removed.

Good luck with the JLR, glad to see Etsy is on the thread advising. He has good first hand experience of these.

I had one dealer in the town say they wouldn't be keen on taking it.

Arnold Clark have offered a good price for it.

I have now been roped into helping with a set of chains on a friend of a friends one that has a slight rattle. Figured it's nice to be nice.

Any chance you could record how the one needing a chain sounds, wouldn't mind hearing it.

Are you going to pull the engine or just take the gearbox out?

I pulled the engine, changed the chains, but it was bottom end failure as well.

Ended up sticking a new engine in, if you got back to the start of the thread there’s videos of the sound of it dying.

So, latest update is.

I had to remove the gearbox due to an oil leak we couldn't find.

2 things - When my new engine came the company that removed it from the crashed vehicle damaged the sump, I had to swap the sumps over which is a pain in the arse, I cheated and didn't remove the top timing cover as we didn't want to disturb the timing gear, we slid the sump on so some of the sealant came off and it was leaking oil into the gearbox and out of the inspection hole.

Gearbox removal takes around 45mins now, replaced the camshaft seal at the same time.

I do still have a very small drip but we think its the top cover, I'm going to service is next week and rectify that.

Other than the passenger footwell filling with a few inches of water when I was on holiday all is well, (scuttle panel wasn't properly clipped in from engine removal.....) sorted now.

Your earlier comment about these engines being hit and miss is very apt as my mum has had her 2017 2.0d F-Pace for 5 years and it has been faultless, with 60K or so on the clock, and my wife's 2016 Disco Sport has also been perfectly fine (67K currently). They are both lovely to drive too, and the Disco Sport was brilliant last week when went drove from Aberdeenshire to London and back. Very comfy over long distances. Fingers and toes crossed they stay that way biggrin

It's bizarre, a local lad I know just bought an Evoque with 181k on it for £4k same engine, and doesn't look to of been in bits either, runs like clockwork.

Goods ones and bad ones, the wife still loves the F Pace so for just now she is happy. Happy wife happy life and all of that.

Aye my mum loves hers and my wife is very fond of 'Lando' as the kids christened it. Did I read right at the top of the page that you remapped yours? Any issues or all good?

I work in the trade and the Ingenium strikes fear to the core of just about anyone I know! They have a whole host of potential issues beyond the timing chain. The trick is not all always assume its the chain as some of the other issues have relatively straightforward fixes.

Then there's the petrol Ingeniums - take out the dipstick and you will see swarf in the oil. That's often put down as "engine's fooked" but they did a recall on the dipstick (metal) which fits so tightly it takes metal up with it.

So sad what happened to jaguar. For the first time in years I could afford almost any model, but won't touch them
