I still fail to grasp why more people don't reverse park. You can judge where you are in the space easier using your mirrors, and it's far easier to spot passing traffic or pedestrians when driving out. Catweazle said:

Because, when you return to your car laden with shopping it's easier to access the boot. I make a conscious decision as to which way I'm going to park, and boot access is one of the things I consider. I'd rather not reverse in knowing that I'm going to be coming back with 100kg of cement, for example.
What I find bemusing is people who don't consider which way they need their vehicle to face. I park a few inches from their rear bumper and then they get the hump that they can't get into their boot. fk 'em. They shouldn't be parking their big luminous van right outside a hospital.

If there's a pavement between spaces, reverse in. If there's a wall or another row of spaces instead, and I need to access the boot, then nose in. If it's just my toddler and me, then park whichever way will prevent returning to someone parked close to the passenger side so I can get her strapped in without issue.

Maybe to access the boot a bit easier when loading the shopping/pram etc?MightyBadger said:

Maybe to access the boot a bit easier when loading the shopping/pram etc? Those who say they cant, are usually making excuses because they cant reverse park

Proven beyond doubt reversing is safer in car parks, notwithstanding that, I have always done that and have never had a problem getting the shopping in the boot.

So of the car park is busy you would rather leave your trolley by the bonnet and carry your bags between your car and the next, hoping that someone else hasn’t parked close to your bumper, all while feeling smug about your driving skills? Those who say they cant, are usually making excuses because they cant reverse park

I don't think anyone here is saying they can't reverse park, we seem to be split into two groups:
1) always reverse in, don't assess your surroundings, never consider any other factors, just reverse in.
Vs
2) assess which direction is more appropriate for this particular situation and park in that direction.
