Insurance Write Off
Discussion
Hi Guys
I bought my girlfriend a used VW Golf from a main dealer recently and 4 days later she was involved in an accident with a hit and run driver and it's been written off. It had only done 26,000, was four years old and in mint condition.Obviously paid main dealer prices for the car, although it was in-line with similar models at other dealers. I have a receipt from four days before the accident with the price on it.
The insurance company's first offer (which I have rejected) is nearly £1000 less than I paid for it. The assessor said he knew what the answer would be, but he said he was quoting from the glasses guide.
Any advice on where I stand, or tips for getting the full amount? My argument is tht I can't go and get the same car from a main dealer with what they are offering.
Thanks in advance

As I understand it, in normal circumstances the best thing to do is get adverts for similar cars in terms of model, spec, mileage and condition from several sources and take an average of their asking prices. This can be accepted as proof of market value.
In this situation, your receipt should be absolutely all you need, because the car was very obviously still worth what you paid for it!

Thanks guys,
It was a lucky find in the first place because of it's low mileage/condition. There aren't that many (exact model) to compare it to on VW's site right now. The nearest I can find is a 57 plate (ours was 07) and some 08's but they all have higher mileage.
I've obviously 'chosen' to buy from a main dealer and pay a premium, but I don't see that I should have to go and buy a car privately because they won't give me what I paid for it. The reason I bought from a dealer was to save time/hassle and to make sure we had a good car with a good history.

Glass do retail as well, there is an electronic link that insurers and assesors use.
Adverts are not all that usefull, unless you allow for negotiation. Better to get retail quotes from Parkers etc
IMHO Parkers is about as accurate as the BBC Weather when there is a huricane coming* (or not). Adverts are not all that usefull, unless you allow for negotiation. Better to get retail quotes from Parkers etc

There seems to be a big difference between VW main dealer prices and Parkers Franchised Dealer prices, part of my concern.
Any thoughts?
I wouldn't settle for anything less than the value on the receipt.Any thoughts?

Simply submit the recipt to the insurance company as evidence of the market price of the car damaged
