Was cycling in, lovely sunny morning on a quiet single track road minding my own.

Anyway, there is one or two corners on this road that are blind so I am listening and get myself way over to the left so as not to be in the middle of the road if there is a car coming. Bear in mind I am on a bright red bike, with an expensive light set to flash and have a day glo yellow top on so quite visible.

Anyway, I hear a vehicle and get right over and round the corner comes a biggish van and probably 35/40 mph who sees me and slams on and locks up and comes almost to a halt, I obviously found this alraming as the tyre smoke wafted towards me, no swearing or abuse from me as was a bit shocked but the van driver just drives a bit at me to force me further off the side of the road and calls me a F*cking W*nker or something to that effect, I just shook my head at him, he watched in his rear view, stopped, put the van into reverse as I was riding away and then obviously thought he couldnt be arsed.

I was thinking that perhaps he was going to apologise but he just gives me some abuse despite being totally in the wrong, there could have been anything round that corner, another car, horse, walkers etc and he would have just ploughed into them.

Dont understand his reaction, is it embarassment or putting a front on, would he have felt a bit sheepish later on or not given it another thought, anyone else had this kind of reaction to a situation ?

And I had no Red Bull with me to save me either.....

I have seen a lot more stupid driving than normal when out on my bicycle lately. (I always think of the cyclist bashing threads and some of the comments that are made on here) smile

Anyway, two cars were approaching me on a back road which is wide enough to get two cars side by side, but not much more. As they get closer the plonker in the car at the back (white Astra) decides to overtake. I see what is happening and begin to pull up onto the verge as he is heading straight for me.

I stop just on the verge and as he screams past me he shouts 'c**t' out of his window. For some reason, he was going mental behind the wheel.

Obviously, I didn't give him a friendly wave as he was doing a stupid overtake, but I didn't do anything to make him call me a c**t. The move was very dangerous and if I wasn't paying attention to where I was going I would have been hit head on by the vehicle.

It's embarrassment, J4CKO.

It's the same thing when you're being cut up really badly by a driver, you beep your horn to alert him to this fact, and HE beeps HIS horn at YOU in retaliation.

Purely showing his embarrassment. The muppet!

That you were there caught him by surprise and the old adrenaline kicked in. If you had not been there he would not have been surprised so it is obviously your fault. According to the van driver not me obviously.
