FYI just back from Paris and the TV ads showing Focus at Euro 12,999 and 0 % finance.

Looks like UK prices are a little on the high side..
Do you have any up-to-date news? We've always been ripped-off in UK!

Go to a Ford dealer in Dover and ask if they'll do a price match with any other dealer less than 50 miles away (most do) and save yourself £2,200 smile

Economies of scale? The French Ford will be LHD like the vast majority of Focuses sold around the world.

How many UK buyers actually pay list price for a Focus, or any Ford for that matter?

There may be an exchange rate issue linked to this.

I think it's often quite a bit more expensive to make a RHD car than is it to make a LHD car due to the volumes involved.

Low volumes for RHD vehicles = higher piece price per part for the RHD specific bits and therefore either a much lower profit margin on that particular car for the OEM.

At today exchange rate, you could have that for under eleven grand, albeit LHD.

We don't have a list price at £11,700.

We have £15,500 as the starting list price.

Rip off Britain.....
Except we are not in the rip off Britain and the vast majority of items to buy in life are a damn sight cheaper in Britain than they are in the rest of Europe.

Now what would that price be if the exchange rate was taken into account at differing levels? Any of which the rate *could* be at and would affect the UK price but be irrelevent to the French price. As that rate differed and the car became cheaper to you in the UK and more dear in France would you suddenly start deciding "rip off France" ?

Exchange rates v the euro are still poor for sterling.

I'd have thought this was about charging a premium for having the steering wheel on the incorrect side.

Absolutely agree with this. I live in Germany, but get the vast majority of my big purchases sent over from the UK, because:
1) it's invariably cheaper, even putting on the postage
2) often it will arrive quicker
3) the aftersales service will be far better

And it's the same with cars - for example, check out kia.de and kia.co.uk - a 1.6 Ceed in UK plus a few extras costs 15k quid. Here, it costs 23k euros. Difference at today's exchange rate: 5k euros or 25% more expensive.

Truly - it certainly isn't rip-off Britain. And don't get me started on the banks here...

Drive The Deal has that car for £12427.25 in the UK, not too bad if you ask me.

OP is still wide of the mark, his example is the exception, in the majority of cases the UK price will often be cheaper!

Why on earth do people say this? Is it because 5 years ago the Daily Mail was upset that you could buy Levis in the USA for half the UK price? I spend a lot of time traveling in Europe and the prices over there often make my eyes water! Try Scandinavia or Switzerland!

Interestingly (or not...) I have just been on the Porsche configurator for France and a new Boxster S is coming in at €60k, whereas in the UK its £45k, spec appears the same, so I am quite surprised to say not rip off britian for anything you might want to actually own.

Compare the used market, where our prices are DRAMATICALLY lower than anywhere else then come and complain. Look at German used car prices for anything interesting, for instance.
