the new Donkervoort D8 GTO uses the fantastic audi 5-cill with standard 340hp on just 700kg and you have a option for 400hp.

edit: The first 25 have a circuit button that turns another 60hp and so the 400hp gets out.
it also has a good working (more sporty) traction control system but not by braking but by ignition or so.

They still have to do some testing but already have some interesting figures...

from the 340hp 2,5-liter TFSI (standard version) (I guess that's with the sport button switched on 400hp)
0-100 km/h the D8 GTO does in just 3 sec...

and even more special the from 100km/h to 200km/h in just 6.1 sec bounce

and that is for the standard 340hp version...which can go to the optional 400hp

Great application for what is apparently a brilliant engine!

This looks sensational!

As much as I love Caterhams, I've always wondered why they haven't evolved the aero like this - integrated headlamps etc.

Either way, love it yes

Not my cup of tea at all. In fact I'd say this is fugly. Give me an R500 over this any day but hats off for trying something different.

Indeed, looks hideous but each to their own. Engine looks impressive though.

Must say that while mechanically it sounds fantastic, I cannot get past those horrible looks. The back looks like it has a cancerous growth!

I too would also prefer an R500. Part of me thinks that while the 5-pot turbo is a fantastic engine, its not exactly suitable for this type of car. Boost coming in mid corner?.....No thanks!

I do like the Donkervoort 'modern 7' look. The Toniq-R is along similar lines, that does seem colour dependent though, a flick through google images brings up some weird combinations, and some seem to have an odd looking all in one headlamp cluster.

What do you mean about boost coming in mid corner? Boost can be controlled by your right foot... wink

Yup, Caterham meets Prowler. A full award of points to the Dutch for effort!

True, although not entirely.

I had a number of Turbo RWD cars, and the back end would always step out if you were mid corner as the boost comes in (awaits people saying there were issues with my car biggrin). Granted, it was easy to catch and didn't make the car any less fun to drive, but I think that a lightweight car like the one above would benefit more from having a high revving N/A engine with a predictable powercurve.

I have also had some turbo rwd cars, and the boost will only come in mid corner if you are pushing the throttle open too much smile, we aren't talking 1980s turbo lag wink

I do agree that these types of car might suit a revvy na engine though.

nice video with English subtitled and especially from 5.40min its becoming mental with that sound of that 5-cill 380<>400hp engine.
in the 380hp case with just 695kg it makes less then 1.83kg per hp and with the 400hp most have just 1.74kg per hp...mmm

0 to 100km/h in just 2.8 sec and 0 to 200km/h in just 8.6sec
