Guys,

Webuyanycar have valued my car at £1,400. And looking on eBay they don't seem to go for much more in auctions, not sure about places like auto trader though.

It's a 2004 in matchstick red (most sought after colour?) full service etc.

Should I go for £1,400 or do you reckon I could pull in over 2k?

Cheers

You'll get easy over 2k for it mate, I remember looking at them last year, 2k for an 04 would have been a steal..

whats the mileage?

Try sticking it on vegoilbiodiesel that will run on Bio without any mods, they live those vag TDI's on there for that reason.

I think any car purchasing website will knock that £1,400 right down once they actually inspect the car, unless it is in pristine condition in the first place. You would probably get more for it with a private sale but it depends on how quickly and easily you want the money and also whether you mind being knocked down for the sake of convenience.

Private sale = more hassle, greater return

Webuyyourmota.com = less hassle, less money

Will be at 120k when it comes to selling. Over 2k would be good but I've been watching some listings on eBay and even the end sale is usually below £1500.

It is strangely true that VAG diesels don't seem to obey normal depreciation curves.

In the last couple of weeks two of my colleagues have offered me mk4 Gold TDIs, one is a 110hp 52 plate with 190k one a 01 plate 90hp with 160k on it. My initial reaction was I wouldn't pay over a £1k for either of them and neither were good spec or especially good condition.

You can imagine my surprise when they both sold them within a week of putting them up for sale at £2k - fking ludicrous if you ask me!

I don't think the Bora enjoys the same price premium as golfs which is a bit silly.
It is the same with the Jetta now, no-one knows they exist (they look for Golfs or maybe Passats) so now Jettas are cheap in comparison.

Indeed. Even the petrol golfs still hold prices well, which is surprising. The gt tdi with <100k seems to be no less than 2.5k and that's the bottom of the market.

Now look at the Alfa Romeo 147, better than a golf in most ways and you can pick up a top spec diesel for around 2k.

I guess it shows how strong the Golf name is.

And not forgetting a seat Leon, so very cheap to buy and better than a Golf. I remember looking for a 1.6 golf and the prices are laughable.
