Hi all.

Considering changing my type r for a lexus is220d. This is due to increased annual mileage (10000) and the fact that I want something a little more refined for the motorway miles I do with work and on occasional weekend trips.

Anyone have any experience of the lexus? I would look at having it remapped as I've read it doesn't feel as fast as the figures suggest I.e. 174bhp

I realise it isn't an mx5 or a remapped 535d

Thanks in advance

Is your mileage increasing by an additional 10k or to a total of 10k?

You know what's coming don't you?

I am sure the 2.2d engine in the IS has serious issues someone will probably know more about it I just remember reading it before...

I recall something about 6th being useless under 80mph as well, and it being quite woeful in the economy stakes...

IS220 is an awful car. There's a reason lexus don't do diesels. They have had big issues with many engine replacements, and the 6th gear is a joke. It's also very agricultural. Lexus don't do diesels anymore, and are bringing hybrid to the new IS

Any Lexus I have ever looked at has awful economy relative to the performance. Can't comment on ever driving one though

Poor economy and the strangest gearing of any car I have ever driven.

I wouldn't say there petrol models are any different in performance or economy than any of the BMW or mercedes, or audi equivalent

Don't expect anything more than low to mid 40s on decent run.

My father in law has owned his for 3 years and is disappointed in the economy, the lack of it.

My LS400 has a 4 litre V8 and is managing 25mpg around town, I was pretty chuffed with that!

Yep that sounds right - work colleague lives down the road from me and has one of these, he gets 33mpg on the same commute I get that from the M135i! And 6th is too long for everywhere except the motorway.

I ran one for 2 years as a company car.

No Cruise control as standard, as above poor consumption, I got high 30's and that was good most of my colleauges were in the 20's

As another has said gearing for 6th was 80 mph+ (European Market perhaps?)

Boot was small due to rear wheel area being in boot.

It was comfy though but very sparce interior for a premium car and the space inside was small.

I would go for Toyota Avensis T180 as an alternative perhaps?

Cheers folks. I had read on the net that it's a viable replacement for a 320d just not quite as good. Will have a look at the avensis. Any other suggestions around 6.5k?

Just looked and the t180 looks a good shout. Any comments on them?

Not a T180, but I owned a 2006 2.2 D4-D 150 for 3.5 years from new, covering 60k miles. It's for sale now at a dealer in Wiltshire for £5.5k with 90k miles on the clock and still looking tidy. Whilst below budget and not quite the model that you were interested in, a car where you can verify the first 60k miles of life might be up a PHer's street?

Drop me a PM if you are interested and I will send you the link to the ad and my contemporary report on my time with the car. (To be clear, it's no longer my car, haven't seen it in the 3.5 years since I traded it in).

Push the budget a little and buy a 140 TDi Passet CC. I replaced an IS220d (thirsty and awful gearing as above) with a CC and it covered miles better than anything else I've had, yes including A4 and 320d.
