Need some help with this one, found a Evoque on Autotrader at £24k but have also noticed it listed on eBay..

What are your opinions? Good Buy? or stay well clear.

Even if I had to spend 4k repairing the scratches it would appear a good deal but there is something else not ringing right with it just can't put my finger on it. Offshore at the moment so not able to view before it finishes it's listing..

+1 Feedback from 2 days ago as a buyer, plus a high value item never sits well with me.

I guess they could be a new company starting out but they only have 1 feedback and it's recent. Wouldn't be handing them £20 never mind £20,000.

1 Feedback, someone called GAZ from Liverpool, suspiciously cheap desirable item.....

I am thinking the scratches are probably perhaps £800 a side to sort based on a quote I had.

Would an insurance company really write off that car for some scratches?

The advert claims a payout of £40k - surely that could be resprayed in full for about £5k?

That could be painted perfectly for much less than £5K. £2K would get a factory spec paint job from the guy i use.
Re the Cat D, it wont have actually been deemed an uneconomical repair its merely a Cat D as its been stolen /recovered.
As already mentioned though, little feedback is something to consider but the use of 'summat' rings alarm bells..

Well, it looks ok to me, I would say it went missing and whilst not found the owner got paid out, afterwards its found and had already been paid out, hence wrote off and sold as salvage.

Cheap car really. (Or certainly cheaper)

My point was that even at £5k it would be cheaper to respray.

I didn't know they were written off if that happened - every day is a school day as they say.

Didn't they used to get a "Q" registration if they had been stolen/recovered?

Only put on a q plate should the identity be lost like the plates removed and all the vin tags. Q plates denote that dvla don't or can't age the car hence a q plate.

Is your local agent not available? He always is whenever I'm selling a car hehe

Far to risky. Even if the seller had squeaky clean credentials, I would have to see the car myself and do all the usual checks once the reg and VIN were known.

Never new that about the Q plates - you rarely see them now though which is odd.

So daft question then - why would this Evoque be written off?

Do the insurance company not just sell it on as repairable salvage if it's found after they've paid out?

Risk outweighs reward on this One I think...Thanks for the input folks, if the timing were different I'd go and see it but as it's payment within the week it's a no go.

Could be a bargain if it's just paintwork damage, I would want to see it and drive it before paying for it.
Would be very hard to sell but a cheap way of getting a nice spec Evoque.

Agreed, but the insurance company had probably paid out prior to having the vehicle recovered.
