Has anyone experienced a quick loss of tyre pressure similar to a puncture only to find that when the deflated tyre has been pumped back up that it holds pressure.

Last week thought that I had a puncture as tyre deflated quickly whilst on a fast country road. Took in the "punctured tyre" only to find that it holds pressure and the tyre fitter cannot find nothing wrong with it, even after water bath tested.

Yep, loads, usually a bit of debris or a stick or something that jams down the side of the sidewall and unseats the bead.

Yes - a heavy impact - kerb / pothole can do this

Failing any good possible reason which you would have mentioned, it is possible for an underinflated tyre to deform and have the bead come off the rim slightly, especially when cornering.

I mention this because you spoke of a "fast country road"...

Thought that I had gone mad.

Reassured to know that it happens.

Definitely a quick deflate as felt the handling of the car change within a matter of yards.

Lucky that I limped to a safe place as the damn tyre has 6mm of tread on it.

Thanks

Loads of times in a 2.8i Mk2 Granny. Wet roads and low kerbs on the estate i lived on were a recipe for disaster!

did this at the ring clipping a kerb whilst spinning off, air line plus a jack and lots of push pulling and the rim re-seated - good to go again.
