Ouch. Serious depreciation.

Liking the look of these in 6 months when the 640d goes back in the summer....

Quick spec on BMW.co.uk suggests this was about £103,000 list with competition pack which is nuts, but they are heading nicely in the right direction! £30k lost in about 2 tanks of fuel!!
There cars with a few thousand miles on for down as low as 55k too.

You're certifiable if you are.
I estimate that my 640d MCoupe (2012, done 22k) is worth about £40k tops. I lease it, but had I bought it, I'd have lost £30k (less with some discount of course, but even so, still far more than my 2.5 year lease is costing).
Not as bad as the M, but still horrible!

What mpg are you getting from the 640?
I havent reset it since i bought it. When first got it I'd stick it in eco mode, but that novelty quickly become boring! With no effort, mixed driving and "enjoying" the car, it has a 21,000 mile reading of 39.2mpg.
I checked the computer by measuring fill to fill a few times and it was pretty accurate.
I think for a relatively large GT car, over 300bhp, that's pretty bloody good.
Real word if you potter along at 65 it will do 50mpg+. Pretty amazing I think.
Dealer contribution on these is £18k without asking - I have seen on these forums some getting up to £27k off list. Speaking to dealer they said in explanation that BMW wants 'halo' cars at the price point advertised, but realise they need to discount 'behind scenes' to sell.
When second hand comes around - people think of epic depreciation but the car was never sold at list.

That might be true but doesn't explain why examples bought used continue to depreciate with the same savagery. Expensive exec' cars have always been heavy depreciators. Maserati Quattroporte, Sir?The good thing about the BMW is that it's not too "exotic" when it comes to getting it fixed and there are plenty of dealers. Don't expect repairs to be cheap though.
Good value if it's the type of car you want.

I'm sorry, but no BMW is worth that money (£103k). They're no longer a premium brand imo.
I think you may be confusing the word premium with exclusive as BMW are and always will be a premium brand. Common and mainstream, but still premium. This depreciation lark has been going on for years, look at the recent Merc CL. If you can afford to buy and run a new 6-Series and you do, you're not going to be fazed by depreciation.
