As above i'm thinking of getting a rubber/sponge mat as need to do a auto box change, to old for much crawling under cars now so something soft with head support wanted. I think a 'crawler' would not be so great because work area is rough concrete and subsequent storage for something i will only use a couple of times a year.
With a Google search i came up with a Gunson mat which folds in half for under £30 from Ebay, anyone got one or better product.

Use an old duvet. Soaks up all the mess, plus when you get stuck with something you can have a little sleep to think about it all without having to leave the car.

This or I have a collection of old car overmats which work well.

Duvet will be minging and flat in no time - I use a spare dog bed/mattress thing; two inches thick of foam with a clothy/wooly cover and fits easily in the washing machine when it gets a little too filthy to lie on.

I tend to use a foam camping roll matt.
This sort of thing

But try and get a decent thickness one.
Ebay have them often called exercise matts

+1 Handy on a gravel drive too, like the duvet you can sleep on it and pretend to be homeless at the same time.

On a similar note, who hasn't fallen asleep under a car while working on it at least once? Waking up and immediately whacking your head on the gearbox is a b*****d!

I've been using this everyday for the last 3 years. Cannot fault it:

Yep.
Same here.
Has the added advantage of also acting as a drip-mat for oil spills when doing an oil/filter change, so you don't have to clean the driveway/garage floor.

There's a 180 x 60cm 'fitness mat' in Lidl on Monday for a fiver.

I've got one of those foam mats from Machine Mart. Had it over ten years and I use it regularly. I bet they can be bought cheaper than the Machine Mart one though.

Either pull one of the floormats out of the car, or use an offcut of Kingspan-type insulation.

Hah, I do have a load of cardboard but knowing my luck it'll pee down and i'll be stuck in a mess of oil and soggy cardboard.

Andyjc86 & Sensibleboy both recommend their machinemart mat which both have been using for years so i'll go with that, will check ebay for cheaper price.
Ydnaroo, i checked lidl for that exercise mat, its PINK!!!yikes no man points for you or me if I was caught asleep under a car on that! biggrin

Old bit of carpet for me, kept rolled up in the back of the garage.
