Hi chaps

My wife has received a NIP for doing 36 in a 30 zone, a set of roadworks currently going on at the A453, Notts.

The NIP offers her a speed awareness course, stating Notts police offer said courses if you are within the "10% +9" rule. She meets all the criteria (as do I).

My question is, what happens if she names me as the driver? Will I then receive a NIP and the offer of a speed awareness course by default? Or will I proceed straight to points, do not pass Go etc.

Putting aside the legal/ moral issue or me actually saying on a public forum who was driving at the time, what if I've always fancied doing the course but have never been offered one. Would naming me give me the chance to take speed awareness?

Neither of us have ever attended such a course.

You and her can tell your respective cell mates what the course was like.

Thanks. Did you miss the bit where I said "putting aside the moral/ legal issue"??

There are no crimes if no one gets caught.

Ok then. Let's phrase it this way.

Person A's car gets caught speeding. Person A is offered speed awareness. Actually, person B was driving at the time.

If person A names person B as the driver, and person B satisfies the criteria, would person B be normally offered speed awareness.

If not, it seems silly as genuinely person B could persuade person A to 'take the course' for them and not tell the truth. It encourages lying if you see what I mean.

Can someone who is not playing the keyboard warrior tonight give me a genuine answer please?

The NIP is sent to the registered keeper which can then nominate the driver at the time so yes with the following caveat http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=124...

TBH not sure if you're being serious here so I may need a parrot if I'm missing something.

My mum was driving a car registered to my dad. He received the ticket initially (and the offer of a course), but instead filled out her details as that was how was driving.

She got the same thing, including the offer of a course.

That was a few years back now and probably a different area to you also.

Assuming you were actually driving, I'd imagine you'd be offered the course, assuming your driving history is "OK". Wouldn't have to be clean, but no major lawbreaking.

Let's say ive had 4 sets of points in my driving career. The newest being 4 years old. You reckon I'd still be offered the course?

Almost definitely. (I would say "100%, DAMHIK", but my last set of points a little older than that...)

The only real showstopper - afaia - as whether you've done an SAC in the last couple of years. They say nationally, but they also say they don't share the attendee lists, so in practice probably just in that force.

There's no reason whatsoever that the criteria would differ depending on if it was the RK or their spouse who was driving.

Advising someone to say they did someone else's crime is incitement to an offence...
