I might buy a new (to me) car tomorrow.

I have viewed it and am pretty happy with it.

Just wondering which places are best to go for an HPI report?

Also I want to be able to check the exact model of the car as some are not as they are advertised and I`m not sure all details would come up on the V5.

Finally is there any checks that can be done to make sure the car has no logbook loans against it?

Thanks

Stupid question also, how can I check how much it would be to tax seeing as its a late 2006/early 2007 car and is a bit juicy?

Why do you think it's called a 'HPI' report?
Maybe because that is the best place to get one from?

Very insightful but there are loads of places that do HPI checks.

Wondering which is best and also best value and if these other points are checkable.

Thanks very much for your wisdom though smile

A normal hpi report from hpi will tell you if the car has finance secured against it, if it's been in a recorded accident, if it's been stolen and recovered. You can pay for extras such as mileage checks ect. with regards to spec checks, the hpi will only show what the v5 has on it. Can you contact a dealer about the car to check the spec recorded by the manufacturer?

Thanks guys.

Not sure I`d want t pester a dealer to help me with a random private sale.

Is there a way to check about logbook loans or are all private sales a gamble in this regard now?

Its a Legacy 3.0 Spec-B. Not worth mega money but enough to do a bit of homework.

I know HPI picks up outstanding finance but i was under the impression that logbook loans against a vehicle do not come up in a regular HPI check?

HPi should pick up on a log book loan unless of course the loan has not been registered against the car, in which case a proper HPi check will cover you so long as all t&c's have been followed as they give you a £30,000 2 year guarantee, but they cost more than the £3 the chap i the newbeat article paid.

Click the link I posted above all the info is there.

A lot of log book loans aren't registered with HPI.

If the V5 says replacement and it only has one key, be wary.

You can check how much the road tax is going to be here. https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/Default....

Thanks very much guys. Still a bit paranoid about logbook loans on private sale cars.
